Overview

This document describes the Lamona LAM1850 Bridge Induction Hob, an appliance designed for domestic cooking.

Function Description

The Lamona LAM1850 is an induction hob that utilizes electromagnetic induction to heat compatible cookware directly. This method offers rapid heating and efficient cooking, with the hob surface remaining cooler compared to other hob types. The hob features four cooking zones, which can be used individually or combined into two wide surface cooking zones for larger pots.

Key functions include:

  • On/Off Control: A main key to power the hob on and off.
  • Temperature Adjustment: An adjustment area allows users to set temperature levels from 0 to 19 by touching or sliding a finger across the area.
  • Booster Function (Quick Heating): This function provides maximum power for rapid heating for short periods. It can be activated directly or when a cooking zone is already active.
  • Automatic Cooking Function: Offers three preset cooking levels: keeping warm, simmering, and frying, allowing for quick cooking without constant attendance.
  • Timer Function: Allows users to set a specific cooking duration for individual zones, after which the zone will automatically turn off.
  • Child Lock: A safety feature that prevents children from turning on the cooking zones when the hob is in Standby mode.
  • Keylock: Activates during operation to prevent accidental changes to cooking functions.
  • Cleaning Lock: Temporarily locks all control panel keys for 20 seconds, allowing for a quick clean while the hob is in use.
  • Residual Heat Indicator: Displays 'H' or 'h' symbols to indicate that a cooking zone is still hot after being turned off.
  • Overheat Protection: Sensors protect against overheating by automatically reducing power or turning off active cooking zones if critical temperatures are reached.
  • Overflow Safety System: Automatically cuts power and turns off the hob if spills occur on the control panel.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Cable Type: HO5V2V2 1.5mm², 5 core (Max 2m) or equivalent.
  • Pan Compatibility: Requires pans with a ferro-magnetic base. Pan size should match the induction zone for optimal performance.
  • Installation: Must be installed by a suitably qualified person in accordance with all local regulations. Requires a minimum clearance of 50mm between the rear edge of the hob and the rear wall, extending up to 650mm above the worktop. A wooden shield is required at least 15mm below the hob's underside if installed above a cupboard/drawers and the underside is touchable.

Usage Features

The hob is controlled via a touch control panel, with each operation confirmed by an audible signal.

Turning on/off Cooking Zones:

  • To turn on a cooking zone, select it and adjust the temperature level using the adjustment area.
  • Cooking zones can be turned off by dropping the temperature to 0, using the timer option, or by touching the cooking zone symbol for 3 seconds.

Wide Surface Cooking Zone:

  • The left and right pairs of cooking zones can be combined to form wide surface cooking zones, suitable for larger pots.
  • When combining zones, the temperature and timer settings of the initially selected zone apply to the combined zone.

Booster Function:

  • Provides maximum power (up to 3000W per zone) for rapid heating.
  • The cooking zone display will flash three lights when Booster is active.
  • After the Booster period, the zone reverts to the previously set temperature level.

Quick Heating Function:

  • Facilitates rapid heating for short periods, available on all cooking zones.
  • Can be set within 20 seconds of switching on a cooking zone and adjusting its temperature.

Safety Features:

  • Child Lock and Keylock: Prevent unintended operation.
  • Overheat Protection: Automatically adjusts or shuts down zones to prevent damage.
  • Overflow Safety: Disables the hob if liquids spill on the control panel.
  • Pan Detection: The hob only heats compatible pans placed on the cooking zones. An 'L' symbol indicates an unsuitable or absent pan.
  • Hot Surface Warning: 'H' or 'h' symbols warn of residual heat.

Operational Notes:

  • Always keep the control panel clean and dry to ensure proper function.
  • Induction zones heat quickly; use high power levels (8/9 & Boost) sparingly until familiar with the speed.
  • Avoid using high power with Teflon (non-stick) pans and low amounts of cooking oil/spray.
  • Position pans centrally on cooking zones and turn handles to a safe position.
  • Do not use double pans, rim-based pans, old or misshapen pans, or any pan that is not stable on a flat surface.
  • Never use commercial simmering aids or heat diffusers.
  • Do not use the hob surface as a chopping board or food preparation area.
  • Avoid placing metal cooking utensils, cutlery, knives, or aluminum foil on the hob surface when in use, as they can become hot or cause damage.
  • Do not heat sealed tins of food on the hob.
  • Ensure pan bases are dry to prevent vapor pressure buildup.
  • Various noises (whistling, fizzing, clicking) may be heard during operation due to pan construction or power levels; these are normal.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • The ceramic hob top can be cleaned with a clean, damp cloth or kitchen paper.
    • Use a specialist ceramic cleaner sparingly for stubborn marks, followed by a dry, clean cloth to polish.
    • A specialist hob scraper can be used for stubborn marks.
    • Wipe any spillage as soon as possible to prevent accumulation of salts or minerals and discolouration.
    • Immediately remove foods with high sugar content (toffee, fruit juice, jam) that boil over or splatter, even if hot, using a scraper.
    • Do not use abrasive products, bleach, hob cleaner spray, pan scourers, used dishcloths, sponges, steam cleaners, or high-pressure cleaning equipment.
    • Regular cleaning prevents grease buildup, which can be a fire hazard.
  • General Maintenance:
    • In case of a cracked or broken glass surface, immediately switch off the appliance at the supply and contact the supplier to prevent electric shock.
    • If error codes 'Fx' or 'Ex' display constantly, contact an Authorised Service Agent.
    • If the touch control panel is exposed to intense vapor or liquid, it may deactivate and display an 'E' error; keep the surface clean and dry.
    • To reduce steam and condensation during cooking, use lids on pans.

Troubleshooting:

  • Metal noises during heating/cooling: Normal expansion of metal parts.
  • Product not operating: Check mains fuse, connection, circuit breaker, and ensure the hob is not overheated or that a suitable pot is being used.
  • 'L' symbol displayed: Indicates no proper vessel or an incompatible/misplaced pot.
  • Cooking zone turns off suddenly: May be due to timer completion, overheat protection, or an object covering the control panel.
  • Pot not getting warm: Check pot compatibility with induction and proper centering on the zone.
  • Water drops during cooking: Normal condensation from vapor hitting cold surfaces.
  • Cooling fan continues operating: Normal, as the fan cools the electronics to a suitable temperature.
  • Touch control unresponsive: Disconnect the appliance at the circuit breaker for 20 seconds to allow sensors to recalibrate.
