GEAR HEAD AND SPOOL
Gear Head

After every 25 hours of use, check the level of grease (XHP 223) inside the gear box and outside the
axle. Add approximately 0.01 lbs. (5 g) of grease (XHP 223) if necessary (Fig. 88).
The gear head of the straight shaft grass trimmer (NPTGSP2517A) has a left hand rotation.
The screw thread specication is M10×1.25-LH.
The gear head of the split shaft grass trimmer (NPTGCP2517B) has a right hand rotation.
Trimmer Head Replacement
(See Figs. 89-91)
Straight shaft grass trimmer (NPTGSP2517A)
■ Insert the provided hex wrench into the hole on the ange to lock the spindle. Then rotate the
trimmer head clockwise to remove (Fig. 89).
■ To install the new trimmer head, hold the hex wrench to lock the spindle. Then rotate the trimmer
head counter-clockwise to install. Make sure the trimmer head is installed tightly.
■ Remove the hex wrench from the hole.
Curved split shaft grass trimmer (NPTGCP2517B)
■ Remove the spool head and the main spool cover as described in the Spool replacement section.
■ To install the new trimmer head as shown in Fig. 90, rst install the main spool cover with the spool
and spring inside; then hold the whole main spool cover and rotate the spool head clockwise to
secure it (Fig. 91).
