Usage Features:
The HistoCore SPECTRA CV features a color touchscreen user interface for programming and operation. It includes a Consumables Management System (CMS) that automatically monitors levels of mounting medium and coverglasses, providing real-time information on remaining quantities and consumption status.
- User Interface: Displays current date, local time, process status, module status, and allows access to parameter settings and user settings. Alarm and notification symbols alert the user to active messages.
- Process Status Display: Shows all racks in process, their respective rack handle colors, estimated remaining time, and time at the end of processing.
- Consumables Management System (CMS): Automatically monitors mounting medium designation, remaining slides, coverglass length, and remaining coverglasses. It displays consumption status via percentage bars.
- Parameter Settings: Allows users (with Supervisor access) to create, modify, and assign rack handle colors to parameter sets, adjusting application volume for mounting medium.
- Oven Settings: The oven can be enabled or shut down. When enabled, it heats to 40 °C to dry coverslipped slides for approximately 5 minutes. The oven step can be excluded if desired, shortening processing time but requiring more careful handling of slides.
- Workstation Mode: The instrument can be operated as a workstation with a HistoCore SPECTRA ST stainer, allowing for an uninterrupted workflow from staining to coverslipping. Racks are automatically transferred, and the system monitors the connection status between the two instruments.
- Manual Rack Removal: In case of instrument malfunctions, detailed instructions are provided for manually removing racks from various positions (load drawer, unload drawer, elevator, rotator, transport arm, oven, transfer station).
- Internal Battery: A high-performance internal battery provides short-term power backup (< 3 seconds) to ensure continuous processing during brief power failures. For longer outages, a controlled shutdown is initiated.
- External UPS Support: An external uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with at least 1100 VA output for 10 minutes is recommended for extended power failure protection.
Maintenance Features:
The HistoCore SPECTRA CV requires regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Cleaning Intervals: Daily, weekly, and quarterly cleaning tasks are recommended.
- Exterior Cleaning: Surfaces, varnished parts, and the instrument hood can be cleaned with mild, pH-neutral household cleaners. Solvents like alcohol, acetone, xylene, or toluene should not be used on varnished or plastic surfaces.
- TFT Touchscreen Cleaning: Clean with a lint-free cloth and suitable screen cleaner.
- Load and Unload Drawers: Regularly check for dirt and reagent residue. Drawer inserts can be removed for cleaning.
- Interior Cleaning: Access to the interior is possible by folding down the unload drawer for cleaning broken glass and mountant residue.
- Prime Bottle: Check for dried-out mountant and clean with xylene if necessary.
- Cannulas for Mounting Medium Bottle: Check for dried residue and contamination, clean with xylene. Filters within the cannulas are replaced by a service technician every two years.
- Needle Cleaning Container: Features an automatic fill level scan. Users must regularly check and refill with xylene. The complete unit can be removed for thorough cleaning if stuck due to dried mountant.
- Needle Cleaning: The needle moves to a maintenance position for cleaning. Heavily soiled needles can be soaked in xylene.
- Coverglass Cartridge: Automatically detected by RFID chip. Users are warned when coverglass is insufficient and guided through replacement.
- Waste Tray: Automatically collects defective/broken coverglass. Users should wear cut-resistant gloves when emptying and cleaning.
- Pick&Place Module: Skids, suction cups, and coverglass sensor pin should be checked for dirt and cleaned. Deformed suction cups must be replaced.
- Reagent Vessels: Must be filled with xylene and cleaned outside the instrument. They can be cleaned in a dishwasher at a maximum of 65 °C.
- Racks and Handles: Regularly check for mounting medium residue. Handles can be removed for cleaning. Racks can be soaked in xylene for 1-2 hours for stubborn dirt and cleaned in a dishwasher at 65 °C.
- Active Carbon Filter: Should be replaced regularly (at least every three months) to reduce solvent vapors.
- Hose System Priming and Cleaning: Quick Prime is required daily or when inserting a new mounting medium bottle to ensure proper flow. Extended Prime is performed after replacing a mounting medium bottle. A comprehensive cleaning function is available for prolonged breaks in use or if mounting quality deteriorates.
- Main Fuses: Instructions are provided for inspecting and replacing main fuses in case of instrument failure.
- Decontamination Certificate: Required for any product returned for service or disposal, ensuring proper cleaning and decontamination of biohazardous specimens.
