Displays
Viewfinder (lower edge) LED symbol for battery warning.
LED light balance with two triangular and one central circu-
lar LED for exposure control. Triangular LEDs indicate the
required direction of the aperture ring for the adjustment.
Left LED also serves as a warning when brightness below
metering range.
Top cover Frame counter
Rear panel Setting dial for manual film speed setting.
Shutter and release
ShutterRubberized cloth, focal plane shutter with horizontal
movement; extremely low-noise; mechanically controlled.
Shutter speeds From 1s to 1/1000s in whole steps, B for
long-time exposures of any duration, 쇵 (1/50s) for flash
synchronization.
Shutter release Two-stage: Power up (activation of expo-
sure meter) – Release. Integrated standard cable release
thread.
Film winding
Loading Manual film loading after removing bottom cover
and opening rear panel.
Advancing Manual with quick wind lever or LEICAVIT M, mo-
torized with LEICA MOTOR-M, LEICA WINDER-M,
LEICA WINDER M4-P, or LEICA WINDER M4-2 (from serial
no. 10 350).
Rewinding Manual with telescopic rewind knob or rewind
crank (alternatively selectable within the Leica á la carte
program). Detachable rewind crank available as an acces-
sory for rewind knob.
Frame counter On top of camera. Automatic reset after
removal of bottom cover.
