External design of Leica M lenses
In principle, all Leica M lenses have the same ex-
ternal design: they have a fixed ring (11) with an in-
dex for setting the distance (11a), a depth of field
scale (11b), and a red index button for changing
the lens (11c), a distance setting ring (12), and an
aperture setting ring (13) with an according index
dot (14).
The focusing ring
The distance setting ring (12) shows the current
distance set and, in conjunction with the depth of
field scale (11b), the extent of the depth of field.
Several Leica M lenses are equipped with a finger
grip (12a) which facilitates especially quick and
easy focusing.
