Overview

This document describes the LEMKEN Korund 8 seedbed combination, an agricultural implement designed for soil cultivation.

Function Description

The Korund 8 is a seedbed combination implement used for preparing the soil for seeding. It features a robust design with various components working in conjunction to achieve optimal seedbed conditions.

Key components and their functions:

  • Three-point tower: Connects the implement to the tractor's three-point linkage. It complies with ISO 730 categories 2, 3, 3N, or 4N, depending on the drawbar type.
  • Frame: Consists of a support frame with flexible supporting arms to which the harrow fields are attached, allowing them to swing freely.
  • Tines: The device can be equipped with Marathon, Gare, or Gamma tines, which are responsible for tilling the soil. The working depth of the tines is adjustable.
  • Working depth adjustment of the tines: The working depth is adjusted separately for each harrow field by changing the position of guide pins in increments of approximately 1.5 cm.
  • Wheel track eliminators: Positioned in front of the tilling device, these are used for leveling and making the tractor wheel tracks friable, ensuring consistent operation of the implement's tools. Their depth can be adjusted.
  • Sprung multirail: Levels the ground and can be mounted in two positions: "Grip" or "Drag." The height adjustment of the multirail is done via a spindle, with basic settings involving turning the spindle clockwise and then back by approximately 8 turns. Further adjustments can be made to work deeper (clockwise) or shallower (anticlockwise).
  • Rollers: Ensure reconsolidation and additional crumbling of the soil. They bear the weight of the implement during operation and ensure exact depth guiding. Different roller types can be fitted.
  • Hydraulic transportation lock: Prevents the side parts of the device from unintentionally folding out when in the folded transport position.
  • Drawbar: Available in categories Cat. 2, Cat. 3, Cat. 3N, or Cat. 4N. Its mounting position influences penetration characteristics, lifting height, roller pressure load, and tractor slip during work.
  • Feeler wheels: Used to improve depth guidance, especially on slopes or partly compacted soil. They are readjusted by the roller following depth adjustment.
  • Lighting system: Contributes to increasing safety during road transport.

The implement is designed for safe operation, with specific instructions for coupling, uncoupling, and transport. It features retractable/extendable side parts for varying working widths and transport dimensions.

The noise level of the implement does not exceed 70 dB (A) during work.

Usage Features

  • Coupling and uncoupling: Requires the tractor's hydraulic unit to be switched to "position control." Hydraulic hoses and electrical cables must be connected according to specified tables. The drawbar and upper link must be secured with safety equipment.
  • Drawbar mounting position: Can be changed to influence penetration, lifting height, and roller pressure.
  • Upper link mounting position: Influences lift height, penetration characteristics, and roller pressure. The hydraulic unit must be in float position for optimal results.
  • Retracting/extending side parts: The implement can only be retracted or extended when attached to the tractor. The process involves lifting the device, operating the control unit, and ensuring the hydraulic transport lock engages. Hazardous areas must be clear of personnel and high-voltage lines.
  • Parking supports: Korund 8/450 K, 8/750 K, and 8/900 K models have parking supports that must be moved into the parking position before parking and into the working/transport position after coupling.
  • Switching over different share systems: The shares of the harrow fields can be reversed when one side is worn, or replaced when both sides are worn. This involves loosening a nut, turning the share 180°, and retightening to a torque of 46 Nm.
  • Operation on public highways: Requires a proper lighting system, identification, and adherence to national highway codes. Axle loads, gross weights, and transport dimensions must be observed. The front axle of the tractor must always be loaded with at least 20% of its curb weight.
  • Turning at the headland: The implement must be completely raised before turning to avoid damage. Turning should be conducted at a speed suitable for the ground conditions.

Maintenance Features

  • Maintenance intervals:
    • After initial start-up (latest after 2 hours): Retighten all wheel nuts and other bolts/nuts to the appropriate torque.
    • Daily inspection: Check tyres for damage, wear, and correct air pressure. Inspect hydraulic hoses for damage and leaks (replace every 6 years). Check safety equipment and soil processing tools for damage/wear.
    • Weekly inspection: Check and retighten wheel nuts and other screw connections.
  • Lubrication: Pivot joints and feeler wheels require lubrication. High-grade grease (Olistamoly 2 or equivalent) should be used. Lubricating nipples are protected by caps.
    • Lubrication chart: Specifies lubrication frequency for pivot joints (every 50 service hours) and feeler wheels (every 50 service hours). Greasing of guide pins, piston rods (acid-free grease), and blank surfaces of levelling tines is recommended before and after the winter break.
  • Safety during maintenance: Always switch off the tractor engine, remove the ignition key, and secure the tractor against unintentional starting or rolling away. Use suitable tools, climbing aids, and support elements. Wear appropriate protective clothing. Depressurise hydraulic systems before working on them. Disconnect power supply before working on electrics.
  • Disposal: Metal and plastic components must be recycled. All components and operating materials should be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, observing national regulations.
