Note:Therearetwomodesfortheharddiskpassword:UseronlyandMaster+User.TheMaster+User
moderequirestwoharddiskpasswords;thesystemadministratorentersbothinthesameoperation.The
systemadministratorthenprovidestheuserharddiskpasswordtothesystemuser.
Attention:Iftheuserharddiskpasswordhasbeenforgotten,checkwhetheramasterharddiskpassword
hasbeenset.Ifithas,itcanbeusedforaccesstotheM.2solid-statedrive.Ifnomasterharddiskpassword
isavailable,neitherLenovonorLenovoauthorizedservicetechniciansprovideanyservicestoreseteither
theuserorthemasterharddiskpassword,ortorecoverdatafromtheM.2solid-statedrive.TheM.2
solid-statedrivecanbereplacedforascheduledfee.

Supervisorpassword
AsupervisorpasswordprotectsthesysteminformationstoredintheThinkPadSetup.Theusermustenter
thesupervisorpasswordinordertogetaccesstotheThinkPadSetupandchangethesystemconfiguration.
Attention:Ifthesupervisorpasswordhasbeenforgottenandcannotbemadeavailabletotheservice
technician,thereisnoserviceproceduretoresetthepassword.Thesystemboardmustbereplacedfor
ascheduledfee.
Howtoremovethepower-onpassword
Toremoveapower-onpassword,dothefollowing:
Ifnosupervisorpasswordhasbeenset,dothefollowingtoremovethepower-onpassword:
1.Turnoffthecomputeranddisconnectacpower.
2.Disablethebuilt-inbattery.See“Disablingthebuilt-inbattery”onpage60.
3.Removethebottomcover.See“1010Bottomcover”onpage60.
4.Removethecoin-cellbatteryandwaitforafewseconds.See“1060Coin-cellbattery”onpage65.
5.Reinstallthecoin-callbattery.
6.Reinstallthebottomcover.
7.Reconnectacpower.
8.TurnonthecomputerandwaituntilthePOSTends.AfterthePOSTends,thepasswordpromptdoes
notappear.Thepower-onpasswordhasbeenremoved.
Ifasupervisorpasswordhasbeensetandisknowntotheservicetechnician,dothefollowingtoremove
thepower-onpassword:
1.Turnonthecomputer.
2.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,immediatelypressF1.
3.TypethesupervisorpasswordtoentertheThinkPadSetupprogram.
4.SelectSecurity.
5.SelectPassword.
6.SelectPower-OnPassword.
