computer.Youmustenterthecorrectpasswordtostartusingthecomputer.
Settingapower-onpassword
1.Printtheseinstructions.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallprograms.
3.Turnyourcomputeroffandthenturnitonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1.TheThinkPadSetupprogrammainmenuopens.
5.SelectSecurity,usingthecursordirectionalkeystomovedownthemenu.
6.SelectPassword.
7.SelectPower-onPassword.
8.IntheEnterNewPasswordeld,typeadesiredpassword,andpressEnter.
9.IntheConrmNewPasswordeld,retypethepasswordandpressEnter.
Note:Youmightwanttorecordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Otherwise,ifyouforgetit,
youhavetotakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohavethepassword
canceled.
10.IntheSetupNoticewindowthatisdisplayed,pressEntertocontinue.
11.PressFn+F10.TheSetupConrmationwindowopens.SelectYestosavecongurationchanges
andexit.
Changingorremovingthepower-onpassword
Tochangethepower-onpassword,followsteps1through7.Enteryourcurrentpassword.WhentheEnter
NewPasswordeldisdisplayed,typeanewpasswordintheeldandthenretypeittoverify.Toremove
thepassword,followsteps1through7.Typeyourcurrentpassword.WhentheEnterNewPasswordeld
isdisplayed,leaveitblankandpressEntertwice.
Harddiskpasswords
Twotypesofharddiskpasswordshelpprotecttheinformationstoredontheharddiskdrive:
•Userharddiskpassword
•Masterharddiskpassword,whichrequiresauserharddiskpassword
Ifauserharddiskpasswordhasbeenset,butnomasterharddiskpasswordhasbeen,theusermustenter
theuserharddiskpasswordinordertogainaccesstolesandsontheharddiskdrive.
Themasterpasswordcanbesetandusedonlybyasystemadministrator.Likeamasterkey,itenablesthe
administratortogetaccesstoanyharddiskdriveinasystem.Theadministratorsetsthemasterpassword;
nooneelseknowsit.Thentheadministratorsetsauserpasswordforeachcomputerinthenetwork,and
tellseachuserthepasswordforhisorhercomputer.Theusercanthenchangetheuserpasswordas
desired,buttheadministratorstillcangetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.
