Scanner Skew
It is important to rule out the possibility of a print engine skew problem or uneven paper before making
adjustments on the scanner unit.
• Paper Squareness – Before deciding if the printer or scanner is the cause of skewing, it is very
important to check the paper to see if it is cut squarely. Remove two consecutive pages from the
paper ream. Flip over the top page, and place it facedown onto the bottom page. Tap the pages
on a level surface to align the bottom edge. Check top edges to see if the sheets are aligned.
• Print Engine Registration and Skew – Print a registration page from Diagnostics Mode.
- Navigate to REGISTRATION > Quick Test to print the registration page.
- If you can’t see both the right and left alignment marks on the top of the test page, adjust
the top margin until the marks are visible.
a. From the REGISTRATION menu, select Top Margin.
b. Adjust the values to move the top alignment marks to the top edge of the page.
c. Increasing the value moves the alignment marks up the page.
d. Decreasing the value moves the alignment marks down the page.
- Reprint the test page and make adjustments as needed until you are satisfied with the
alignment.
You can see a shadow of the
second page behind the first. The
paper is not square so print on the
page may look skewed.
