7-2. Steps to take in an emergency

When trouble arises
3 Lower the vehicle.
4 Securely tighten the wheel nuts two
or three times in the order shown in
the illustration using a wheel nut
wrench.
Tightening torque:
97 ft•lbf (131 N•m, 13.4 kgf•m)
5 Reinstall the wheel ornament.
Remove the center wheel ornament from
the flat tire by pushing from the reverse
side, and reinstall it.
1 Lay down the tire with the valve
stem facing up
2 Install the spare wheel cover.
3 Install the holding bracket . Turn
the jack handle extension clock-
wise to take up slack in the chain.
Then, check to ensure the holding bracket
is centered in the wheel hub.
4 Raise the tire.
Place a rag under the jack handle to pro-
tect the rear bumper.
While raising, secure the tire, taking care
that the tire goes straight up without catch-
ing on any surrounding part, to prevent it
from flying forward during a collision or
sudden braking.
After the tire goes half way up, check that
the suspended chain is able to enter the
tire hole, for proper storage.
