How to troubleshoot a Liberty Pumps 404 that won't turn on or off?
    • K
      kiara86Jul 27, 2025
If your Liberty Pumps Water Pump isn't turning on or shutting off, first, ensure the unit is securely plugged in. Then, have an electrician inspect the wiring to confirm proper connections and sufficient capacity. Also, make sure that an unrestricted vent of at least 1-¼” in diameter is in use. Finally, remove the access cover and check that the float is free to move. If buildup restricts the float, clean and reinstall it. If the switch is defective, replace it.

What to do if my Liberty Pumps Water Pump runs but does not pump?
    • D
      Donald HigginsAug 2, 2025
If your Liberty Pumps Water Pump runs or hums but doesn't pump, start by checking the discharge line for any blockages, including ice if the line runs through cold areas. Next, remove the check valve and inspect it to ensure it operates freely and is installed correctly. Also, check the trap and inlet piping for restrictions. If the total lift height has been reached, try routing the pipe to a lower level, or consider adding another pumping station at roughly half the total lift. Lastly, disassemble the receiver and bottom base of the pump to remove any foreign material jamming the impeller, then reassemble.

If water or soap suds are coming out of the vent pipe of your Liberty Pumps Water Pump, ensure that an unrestricted vent of at least 1- ¼” in diameter is in use. Remove the tank cover and check that the float is free to move; if buildup restricts it, clean and reinstall. If the switch is defective, replace it. Also, try using a valve on the inlet to reduce the rate of inflow if it exceeds the pump output.

If your Liberty Pumps Water Pump is operating noisily, disassemble the receiver and bottom base of the pump to remove any foreign material from the impeller cavity, then reassemble.
