• Label container with date, time, and infant’s name if taking to
daycare.
• Use fresh milk whenever possible.
• Freshly expressed milk is safe at room temperature (16 - 29° C/
60 - 85° F) for ≤ 4 hours. 6 - 8 hours is acceptable under very
clean conditions.
• Refrigerate milk if going to use in the near future.
• Milk is good in the refrigerator for 4 days when kept at 4° C/
- 39.2 ° F.
• Freeze milk immediately if not going to be used or shipped within
48-72 hours.
• Use milk stored in a self-defrosting freezer (separate from
refrigerator). Optimal: 6 months. Acceptable: 12 months.
