  If the Lincoln Electric Welding System machine input contactor closes but has no or low output, and the open circuit voltage should be 67 to 71 volts, check the electrode or work lead for looseness or breakage and repair connections. Also, check for an open transformer primary or secondary circuit and repair it. Ensure the supply line fuse isn't blown and replace it if it is, checking the fuse size. See if the input line is grounded, causing single-phase input, and repair the input to the machine if so. Verify input leads are connected to the contactor and connect them if they aren't. Also, check the latching resistor R3 for being open and replace it, checking leads to the resistor and repair if defective.

  If your Lincoln Electric Welding System machine comes on but trips off when under no load or makes excessive noise like it is loaded, the power bridge rectifier may have a shorted diode or SCR. Also, there may be a short in the transformer. Another possible cause is the fan hitting the vertical baffle, so clear the fan.

  If the Lincoln Electric Welding System machine input contactor does not operate, check the following: supply line fuse (replace if blown, but find the reason first), power circuit (check voltage), power lead (repair if broken or loose), voltage (check against instructions), thermostats (ensure the fan is operating and there are no obstructions, operate at normal current and duty cycle, and replace the High Temperature Warning Light if defective), input contactor coil (replace if open), 115V pilot transformer (replace if open), Power ON-OFF switch (replace if not closing), lead in 115V starter circuit (replace if broken or loose), and thermostats (replace if defective after turning input power off and checking with a continuity meter).

Check that leads 75, 76, and 77 are correctly connected on models with a terminal strip. Repair any broken remote control leads, and connect or repair any open leads or connections in the current control circuit. Also, ensure the control PC board plug is securely connected.

  If the Lincoln Electric Welding System machine comes on but reduces to low output under load, and remains there until the load is broken and the arc restarted, it is possible that the excessive load is causing the over-load protection on the control board to operate. Reduce the load. It's also possible that the machine output is shorted, triggering the overload protection on the control board. Turn the machine off and remove the short.
