This document describes the LS Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), specifically the SV-iP5A series, providing essential information for their installation, operation, and maintenance.
Function Description:
The SV-iP5A series VFDs are designed to control and monitor three-phase AC asynchronous (Induction Motor) motors, enabling precise speed and torque adjustments. They are suitable for various industrial applications, including fan, pump, and HVAC systems, as well as multi-motor control. The VFDs convert incoming AC power into a variable frequency and voltage output, allowing for efficient motor operation and energy saving. They support both V/F control and Sensorless Vector control modes, with auto-tuning capabilities to maximize motor performance. The VFDs can be controlled via a keypad, external control terminals, or through RS485 communication, offering flexibility in integration with PLC or other master control systems.
Important Technical Specifications:
The SV-iP5A series covers a wide range of power ratings and voltage classes.

Usage Features:
The VFDs offer a user-friendly LCD keypad for programming and monitoring, displaying up to 32 alphanumeric characters. The keypad allows for easy navigation through seven program groups (DRV, FU1, FU2, I/O, EXT, COM, APP) to adjust various parameters.
- Easy Start Operation: Activated by pressing the STOP key for 2-3 seconds, pre-setting drive mode to V/F and reference frequency to JOG.
- Control via Terminal: Supports external control signals for run/stop commands (FX/RX terminals) and frequency setting (V1, V1S, I terminals).
- Control via Keypad: Allows direct control and frequency setting from the keypad.
- Parameter Groups: Parameters are organized into logical groups for efficient configuration:
- Drive Group (DRV): Command frequency, accel/decel time, basic functions.
- Function 1 Group (FU1): Max frequency, torque boost, protection settings.
- Function 2 Group (FU2): Frequency jumps, max/min frequency limits, auto-tuning.
- Input/Output Group (I/O): Programmable digital input/output, analog command, sequence configuration.
- Application Group (APP): PID control, Multi-Motor Control (MMC), 2nd motor operation.
- Advanced Functions: Includes PID control for process regulation, Ext PID for external feedback, Pre PID for smooth starts, and MMC for integrated system control.
- Multi-speed and Jog Operation: Up to 18 speeds can be set, including jog operation.
- Energy-saving Operation: FU1-51 [Energy Save Level] tunes output voltage for constant speed operation, suitable for fan/pump applications.
- RS485 Communication: Enables control and monitoring via PC or PLC, supporting multi-drop link systems with up to 31 drives. Baud rates from 1200 bps to 19200 bps are selectable.
Maintenance Features:
Routine and periodic inspections are crucial for maintaining the VFD's performance and longevity.
- Precautions: Always disconnect power and wait at least 10 minutes for capacitors to discharge (DC link voltage below 30VDC) before maintenance. Use a rectifier voltage meter for accurate output voltage measurements.
- Routine Inspection: Check installation conditions, cooling, abnormal vibrations or noise, and heating/discoloration.
- Periodic Inspection:
- Inspect for loose bolts, nuts, or rust; tighten or replace as needed.
- Clean cooling fan and PCB boards using an air gun to remove deposits.
- Check connectors for abnormalities.
- Verify cooling fan operation and capacitor condition.
- Troubleshooting: The VFD displays fault codes (e.g., Over Current, Ground Fault, Over Voltage, Over Load, Over Heat, E-Thermal, Ext. Trip, Low Voltage, IGBT Short, Output/Input Phase Open, HW-Diag, COM Error, NTC open, Lost cmd, Fuse Open, Keypad FLT) on DRV-12. The last 5 faults are saved in FU2-01 to FU2-05.
- Fault Reset: Faults can be reset via the keypad [RESET] key, RST-CM terminals, or by cycling input power.
- Power Components Check: Detailed instructions are provided for checking diode and IGBT modules (for 5.5-30kW and 37-90kW models) using a tester after power disconnection and discharge.
- Megger/Withstanding Voltage Test: Perform megger tests only on the main circuit (not control circuit) with DC 500V megger after disconnecting inverter wiring. Do not apply test voltage to the inverter.
- Parts Replacement: Recommended replacement intervals for cooling fans (2-3 years) and electrolytic capacitors (5 years) are provided. Capacitors should be replaced if their initial value drops by 15% or more. Relays should be replaced as needed.
- Single-Phase Input Considerations: When using single-phase input, derating of the VFD's power rating is necessary due to increased DC bus ripple and higher input currents/harmonics. An AC reactor is always required. Specific wiring configurations for single-phase input are detailed.
