Overview

This document is an installation, usage, and maintenance guide for a MAAX Neo-angle corner shower kit, models 102886 and 102889.

Function Description:

The MAAX Neo-angle corner shower kit is designed to provide a functional and aesthetically pleasing showering space. It is a complete unit that includes a base, glass panels, and all necessary hardware for installation. The shower unit is intended for residential use, with specific commercial limitations outlined in the warranty. The neo-angle design is space-efficient, fitting into a corner while offering a wider entry than a standard square or rectangular corner shower. The door is designed to open outwards, requiring sufficient clear space for operation. The kit emphasizes ease of installation with detailed, step-by-step instructions, although it recommends professional plumbing and, for certain aspects, a two-person installation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: 102886, 102889
  • Drain Pipe: Requires an approximate internal diameter of 2" and an outside diameter of 2 3/8" for a snug seal and to prevent leakage. If the outside diameter is not 2 3/8", reducing fittings will be necessary. The drain pipe should be plumb and firmly in place, with a smooth, burr-free top.
  • Wall Requirements: Adjacent walls must be square and vertical (90° angle). The base must be installed directly against studs, not a finished wall.
  • Drill Bits: 1/8" and 1/4" for general drilling, and a 3/32" drill bit is provided for specific panel upright holes. A 1/4" masonry drill bit is recommended for ceramic tile installations.
  • Screws: #10 x 1 1/4" long screws for wall channels, #6 x 1/2" long screws for securing the shower to wall channels, and #10-24 x 1/2" long screws for pivot block installation. M5 x 1/4" setscrews are used for adjustable pivot bushings.
  • Caulking: Siliconized latex caulking (premium quality, mildew resistant) is required. Latex-based caulking is recommended for polystyrene wall panels due to better adhesion. Plumber's putty should NOT be used on polystyrene and ABS walls as it can cause severe cracking.
  • Materials: The unit utilizes high-quality materials, with strict quality control measures. Polystyrene is mentioned for wall panels, and glass for the door and fixed panels. Painted aluminum surfaces are also part of the construction.
  • Certifications: MAAX products are certified by one or more of the following agencies: CSA, UL, IAPMO, ULI, INTERTEK (ETL), WARNOCK HERSEY, US TESTING, and NAHB. Some models may be pending approval.

Usage Features:

  • Door Opening: The door can be configured to open either to the left (right-side hinging) or to the right (left-side hinging). It opens outwards, so sufficient space is needed.
  • Adjustable Door: The door features adjustable pivot bushings and an adjustment screw on the glass clamps, allowing for precise alignment to ensure it sits evenly against the handle-side sealing gasket. Adjustments should always be made from inside the shower to prevent scratching the rail.
  • Waterproofing: The design incorporates sealing gaskets for the bottom, hinge-side, and handle-side of the door, along with specific caulking instructions for both the inside and outside of the shower unit to ensure proper waterproofing.
  • Drain Location: The drain can be located to the left, middle, or right, depending on the unit, and its exact position (12 1/4" from each stud wall) is critical for proper installation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Disinfection: Periodic disinfection is recommended to prevent bacterial growth in deposits that accumulate in showers.
  • Cleaning:
    • Clear Panels, Base, and Walls: Can be cleaned with a mild detergent solution, rinsed well, and dried with a chamois or soft cloth. For stubborn stains, a window glass cleaner can be used, but the surface should be wiped immediately after application.
    • Base, Walls, and Painted Aluminum Surfaces: Their luster can be restored with a mild automotive wax/polish. The wax helps fill small scratches, keeping surfaces cleaner longer. Rubbing compound should not be used, and any polish should be tested on a small, inconspicuous area first.
  • Prohibited Cleaners: Abrasive cleaners, scrapers, metal brushes, or any object/product that could scratch or dull the surface should NOT be used.
  • Stain Removal:
    • Paint Stains: Use turpentine or a paint thinner.
    • Joint Compound: Use a plastic or wood spatula covered with a damp cloth. Avoid metal blades or brushes.
  • Rubber Mats: If a rubber mat is used in the shower, it MUST be removed immediately after each use. Failure to do so will cause damage not covered by the warranty.
  • Gasket Replacement: Hinge-side and handle-side sealing gaskets should be removed before sealing the unit with silicone and replaced after the silicone has dried for 48 hours. The "U" shaped part of the hinge-side sealing gasket should be cut to the exact length of the glass door panel, ensuring a flap is left at both ends for waterproofing.
