Windows XP Computers:
1. Insert USB flash drive; your computer may
indicate:
• “Found New Hardware” follow the prompts to
install the USB flash drive
• USB flash drive may auto launch - Close auto
launch window.
2. To access Disk Management:
• Left click on the Windows Start Button
• Left click on “Run”
• Type compmgmt.msc and left click on “OK”
• Left click on “Disk Management”.
3. Verify USB flash drive capacity is 2 GB or less
4. Right click on the USB flash drive, then left click
on “Format” from the drop down list.
5. Verify or select the settings below:
• Volume Label is Optional - Rename if desired
• File System - Fat32
• Allocation Unit Size must be 512 MB
• Deselect “Perform A Quick Format” (no
checkmark)
6. Left click on “OK” you will receive a warning -
“Formatting will remove all data” left click on “OK”,
wait until formatting is complete and “status”
indicates “Healthy”, then close the disk
management window.
