Overview

The Marey Gas Flow tankless water heater is a compact and energy-efficient appliance designed to provide instant hot water for residential use. It operates on either liquid propane or natural gas, offering flexibility for various installations. The unit is designed for vertical wall mounting, with gas and water connections at the bottom and the exhaust at the top.

Function Description:

The Marey Gas Flow tankless water heater utilizes a water-controlled automatic ignition system. When water flow is detected, the unit immediately initiates heating with a double ignition device. The flame is sensed by ions, ensuring precise and responsive operation. This sensitive control makes the unit easy and convenient to operate, providing hot water on demand without the need for a storage tank. The unit is powered by two D cell batteries for pulse ignition, eliminating the need for an electrical connection.

Usage Features:

The water heater incorporates several features to enhance user experience and safety. It includes an auto-cut-off protection system that immediately shuts off the gas supply if the flame goes out for any reason, preventing gas leaks. For energy savings, the unit features an advanced combustion system with a Winter/Summer switch. In winter, when incoming water temperatures are lower, the winter setting increases the flame size to provide extra heating. Conversely, in summer, with higher incoming water temperatures, the summer setting reduces the flame, leading to lower gas consumption.

The unit has a low water pressure start-up function, requiring only 2-2.9 PSI to fire, making it suitable for homes with lower water pressure or for supplying hot water to upper floors. It's important to note that sufficient water flow is always required to prevent the overheat safety sensor from shutting off the unit.

For user convenience, the water heater includes a sighting window to observe the flame during operation, allowing users to check for normal combustion (a compact, blue flame). Knobs for Winter/Summer settings, gas control, and water control are located on the front panel for easy adjustment.

Safety Features:

Safety is a paramount concern with the Marey Gas Flow tankless water heater. It is equipped with anti-dry combustion protection, which automatically shuts off the gas supply if dry combustion occurs. An over-pressure protection mechanism is also integrated, automatically relieving excessive water pressure (over 145 PSI) to prevent damage to internal components.

The manual strongly emphasizes the importance of proper installation, particularly regarding gas connections and venting. All gas connections should be made by a professional, using yellow Teflon tape at threaded connections, and checked for leaks with soapy water. The unit must be installed in a well-ventilated area with a properly installed exhaust pipe (double-walled B-vent or Z-vent) to discharge exhaust gases and prevent oxygen depletion and carbon monoxide poisoning. The manual recommends using a carbon monoxide detector with any gas-burning appliance.

Users are warned not to expose the water heater to strong winds or rain and not to install it near flammable or volatile substances. The unit should not be installed in a sealed room or a room with poor air circulation, nor should the exhaust pipe or air inlet be blocked. During operation, only the control knobs should be touched, as the body of the heater can become very hot. Users are advised to check water temperature before use to prevent scalding.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the water heater. Users are instructed to regularly check gas pipes, hoses, and vent pipes for loose joints, cracks, or corrosion. Any issues found should be addressed immediately, and the heater should not be used until repairs are made. Regular checks for water or gas leaks are also recommended.

For cleaning, the surface of the water heater should be wiped with a wet cloth to remove dirt or dust, followed by a dry cloth to remove moisture. Mild spray cleaners or detergents can be used for stubborn dirt. Strong detergents, benzene, gasoline, or other flammable agents should not be used for cleaning.

A key maintenance task is the regular removal and washing of the stainless steel filter located in the cold water inlet to prevent mineral deposits from building up in the water valve assembly.

In areas where outdoor temperatures drop below 32 degrees F, an anti-freezing protection measure is provided. Users should turn off the gas and tap water supply valves, set the water temperature adjusting switch to low, open the hot water supply valve, and remove the water discharge valve to drain any accumulated standing water from the internal pipes. The valve stem and warm water line should remain disconnected until freezing temperatures pass.

The manual also provides a troubleshooting guide to help users identify and resolve common issues, such as gas valve problems, air in gas lines, insufficient water pressure, and abnormal combustion. For more complex issues or abnormal combustion (indicated by tall or excessively orange flames), users are advised to contact the Marey service center or their local gas company.
