Do you have a question about the MGE UPS Systems Pulsar EX 700RT and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The MGE Pulsar EX is a series of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems designed to protect electrical equipment from power disturbances. This manual covers the Pulsar EX 700RT, EX 1000RT, and EX 1500RT models, as well as the optional extended battery module, Pulsar EXB 1500RT. The UPS units are designed for installation in environments free of conductive contaminants, with an operating temperature range of 0 to 40°C.

Function Description:

The Pulsar EX UPS provides continuous, regulated AC power to connected equipment, even during power outages, voltage fluctuations, or other electrical disturbances. It operates on a double conversion principle, where AC input power is rectified to DC, and then converted back to a clean AC output, ensuring a stable and high-quality power supply. In the event of an AC input power failure, the UPS seamlessly transfers to battery power, providing backup time for connected devices. Programmable outlets allow for sequential start-up of applications, shedding of non-priority loads during battery operation, and priority management to maximize backup time for critical systems. The UPS also features a Remote Power Off (RPO) function, enabling a remote user-operated contact to cut power to all connected devices in an emergency.

Usage Features:

  • System Configurations: The UPS can be installed in either a 19-inch rack position or a tower position using provided supports.
  • Control Panel: Features an ON/OFF button, LED indicators for battery operation, ON-LINE mode, bypass operation, programmable outlet status, UPS overload, electronics fault, battery fault, and site wiring fault. A lamp test/buzzer OFF button is also included.
  • Communication Ports: Equipped with RS232 and USB communication ports for connection to a computer, allowing for monitoring and personalization using MGE's Solution-Pac and UPS Driver software. An optional communication card slot is also available.
  • Personalization (Optional): The UPS Driver software allows users to customize various functions, including:
    • ON/OFF Conditions: Automatic start, cold start (battery power), forced shutdown, sleep mode, and UPS ON/OFF via software.
    • Battery Settings: Automatic "Battery test" intervals (every week, once a day, once a month, or no test), "Low-battery warning" threshold (0% to 100% of remaining backup time), and protection against deep discharges.
    • Output Settings: Rated UPS voltage (100 V - 127 V), frequency working mode (converter or 50 Hz), rated UPS frequency (F ± 1% to ± 10%), overload alarm threshold (0 to 110%), and UPS restart following short-circuit.
    • Bypass Settings: Transfer to bypass if overload, and transfer to bypass following a fault.
  • Start-up: The UPS can energize connected equipment whether AC input power is available or not. For the first energization, AC input power must be present.
  • Operation on Battery Power: When AC input power is outside tolerances, the UPS automatically transfers to battery power, indicated by an LED and buzzer. A low-battery warning threshold can be set, and the UPS will automatically shut down at the end of the battery backup time to prevent deep discharge.
  • Remote Power Off (RPO): Allows for remote shutdown of the UPS via an external dry contact, useful in emergency situations.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Charging: The battery begins charging immediately upon connection to a power source, requiring at least 8 hours for a full charge to achieve the rated backup time.
  • Battery Storage: If stored for a long period, the UPS must be energized for 24 hours at least once every 6 months (for normal storage temperature less than 25°C) to charge the battery and prevent irreversible damage.
  • Battery Replacement: The manual provides detailed instructions for the safe removal and reinstallation of the battery module. It emphasizes using a battery module with the same rating as the original to maintain performance and safety.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting guide based on LED indicators and buzzer sounds, covering issues such as UPS overload, battery faults, and site wiring alarms.
