12 Rear leaf spring - removal and installation

Warning:
Wheneverany of the suspension orsteering fasteners are loos-
enedorremoved, theymustbe inspectedand, ifnecessary, replaced with
newonesofthesamepartnumberoroforiginalequipmentqualityandde-
sign. Torque specifications must be followed forproper reassembly and
component retention.
1 Jack up the vehicle and support the frame securely on jackstands.
2 Remove the rear wheels and tires.
3 Place a jack under the rear differential housing.
4 Lower the axle housing until the leaf spring tension is relieved, and
lock the jack in this position.
5 Disconnectthe shockabsorberfrom the spring seat (see Section 11).
6 Remove the U-bolt mounting nuts
(see illustration).
7 Remove the U-bolts and spring seat.
8 Remove the bolt and detach the parking brake cable from the spring.
Remove the nuts and the shackle pin assemblies, then lower the spring
from the vehicle.
9 If the bushings in the spring or frame are deteriorated, replace them. If
you need to replace the bushings in the spring, take the spring toan auto-
motive machine shop to have the old bushings pressed out and new ones
pressed in.
IO Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Lubricate Jhe
shackle pins and bushings with lithium-based grease. When installing the
U-bolt and shackle pin nuts, tighten them to the specified torque values
(see this Chapter’s Specifications).
13 Rear suspension trailing arms (coil spring models) - removal
and installation
Refer to illustration 13.2
Warning:
Wheneveranyofthesuspensionorsteeringfastenersareloos-
ened or removed, they must be inspected and, if necessary, replaced with
newonesofthesamepartnumberoroforiginalequipmentqualityandde-
sign. Torque specifications must be followed for proper reassembly and
component retention.
1 Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands
2 Remove the parking brake cable bolt
(see illustration).
3 Remove the nuts and bolts and detach the trailing arm from the ve-
hicle.
4 Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the nuts and bolts to the
torques listed in the Specifications Section at the beginning of this Chapter
before lowering the vehicle weight onto the suspension.
14 Rear suspension lateral rod (coil spring models) - removal
and installation

Warning:
Wheneveranyofthesuspensionorsteeringfastenersareloos-
ened orremoved, theymustbe inspectedand, ifnecessary, replaced with
newonesofthesamepartnumberoroforiginalequipmentqualityandde-
sign. Torque specifications must be followed for proper reassembly ant
componentretention.

3 Remove the left side lower shock absorber bolt.
4 Remove the left side trailing arm bolts (see Section 13).
5 Remove the nuts and detach the lateral rod.
6 Installation is the reverse of rem&al. Tight&n the nuts and bolts to the
torques listed in the Specifications Section at the beginning of this Chapter
before lowering the vehicle weight onto the suspension.
15 Rear susperkion coil spring -removal and installation
