17.3 Use a socket and extension to
remove the steering wheel nut
17.4 Remove the screws and lift off the
horn plate (if equipped)
2 Remove the parking brake cable attaching bolt (see
illustration).
3 Remove the lower left shock absorber bolt.
4 Remove the stabilizer bar bracket bolts and detach the brackets and
bushing.
5 Remove the stabilizer link bolts and detach the bar from the vehicle.
6 Installation is the reverse of removal. Before lowering the vehicle
weight onto the suspension, tighten the bracket bolts to the torque listed in
the Specifications Section at the beginning of this Chapter. Tighten the
nuts on the stabilizer link bolts securely.
17 Steering wheel - removal and installation
Refer to illustrations 17.3, 17.4 and 17.6
Warning:
Wheneveranyofthesuspensionorsteeringfastenersareloos-
enedorremoved, theymustbeinspectedand, ifnecessary, replaced with
newonesofthesamepartnumberoroforiginalequipmentqualityandde-
sign. Torque specifications must be followed for proper reassembly and
component retention.
Removal
I Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
17.6 Remove the steering wheel from
the shaft with a puller - DO NOT hammer
on the shaft!
2 Using a small screwdriver, pry off the horn button or center pad and
unplug the horn switch connector.
3 Unscrew the steering wheel nut
(see illustration)
4 Remove the horn plate (if equipped) (see
illustration).
5 Markthesteering wheel hub and the column shaftwith paint to ensure
correct repositioning during reassembly.
6 Remove the wheel using a puller (see
illustration). Caution: Do
not
hammer on the wheel or the shaft to separate them.
Installation
7 Realign the steering wheel and the column shaft using the paint
marks. Install and tighten the retaining nut to the torque listed in this Chap-
ter’s Specifications, then attach the horn plate and button or center pad.
8 Hook up the negative battery cable.
18 Steering linkage - removal and installation
Warning:
Wheneveranyofthesuspensionorsteeringfastenersareloos-
ened orremoved, theymustbe inspectedand, ifnecessary, replaced with
newonesofthesamepartnumberoroforiginalequipmentqualityandde-
sign. Torque specifications must be followed foi proper reassembly
and
component retention.
