SAFETY MAINTENANCE
CHANGING CHIPPER KNIVES
CAUTION:
BEFORE CHANGING KNIVES
1. Always remove ignition key and coil wire (on
gasoline power units) and disengage clutch,
if applicable.
2. Make sure the chipper drum has come to a
complete stop.
3. Open the chipper hood.
4. Rotate drum so knife is accessible.
5. Install drum lock pin.
6. Remove the (4) knife bolts.
7. Remove all dirt and chip particles from the
knife and knife pocket.
8. Reverse or replace the knife.
9. Place the knife onto the knife holder and insert
bolts. Before tightening slide the knife forward
and then proceed to torque bolts down.
NOTE: Refer to torque chart on pg. 22
10. Remove drum lock pin.
11. Repeat this process for each knife.
12. After changing knives, fasten chipper hood
back in place.
IMPORTANT! Always adjust anvil after each time you
replace or sharpen knives. (Refer to "Adjusting Anvil
Clearance)(pg. 20)
Remove the ignition key before attempting
any maintenance.
Replace the knives and tighten all the knife bolts.
Close the chipper hood, install the hood pin and clip.
Install the drum lock pin.
