TROUBLE SHOOTING THE CHIPPER
Always be sure engine is shut off and chipper drum is completely stopped and all
lockout procedures are followed before attempting to do any maintenance on chipper.
PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS
Chipper will not 1. Dull knives. Sharpen or replace knives.
feed properly.
2. Loose belts. Check for proper belt tension.
3. Knives ground at incorrect angle. Grind knives at
31 degrees (Refer to Maintenance Section.)
4. Obstruction in infeed spout. If material lodges in
the chipper, raise top yoke, install yoke lock pins.
REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY AND COIL WIRE
(on gasoline units), DISENGAGE THE CLUTCH
(if applicable). Carefully pull the material from the
infeed. Resume Operation.
Chipper bearing 1. Lubricate or replace bearings.

(210° F Maximum) 2. Drum RPM too high. Do not exceed 2300 RPM.
3. Bearing retainer cap loose. Torque to 100 ft. lbs.
Discharge spout plugged. 1. Obstruction in discharge spout. Remove obstruc-
tion. Patches welded on spout may cause obstruc-
tion. If so, replace spout.
2. Chipper drum RPM too low. Do not run chipper
drum below 1700 RPM.
Chipper drum wobbles.
1. Chipper bearings worn. Replace.
2. Knife pocket is plugged with material. Unplug
pocket.
Chipper drum will not turn. 1. Check for obstruction in chipper housing.
2. Check for seized chipper bearings. Lubricate or
replace.
