Overview

The M-VISION Dashboard is a versatile accessory designed to enhance the user experience with MSI motherboards. It serves as an interactive display and control panel, offering a range of functionalities for system monitoring, performance tuning, and quick access to various applications.

Function Description:

The M-VISION Dashboard primarily functions as a system information display, showing critical data such as CPU temperature, CPU speed, BIOS flash status, and error messages. Beyond passive monitoring, it provides active control capabilities, allowing users to power on/off and restart the system directly from the dashboard. A key feature is its CPU performance tuning ability, enabling users to overclock the CPU BCLK or CPU ratio. It also facilitates BIOS resets and includes a countdown timer for various tasks. For enhanced productivity and entertainment, the dashboard offers shortcuts to launch system applications like the MSI Center, YouTube, a music player, a web browser, and a calculator. Furthermore, it supports the demonstration of pictures and animations, adding a layer of personalization.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Display: 3.5-inch IPS LCD panel.
  • Touch Control: Resistive single touch for intuitive interaction.
  • Color Display: Full color display for clear visual feedback.
  • Connectivity: Magnetic connection for easy attachment to the motherboard, and support for a detached mode via a supplied M-VISION cable connected to a specified USB port (M-VISION Dashboard port) on the back panel.
  • Audio: Speaker function for alarms and notifications.
  • Customization: Customizable with MSI software (MSI Center) for advanced mode settings and the ability to upload .gif, .bmp, .png, .jpg, or .mp4 animation files.
  • System Requirements:
    • Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit or later.
    • Software: MSI Center must be installed to enable advanced mode functionalities and customization.

Usage Features:

The M-VISION Dashboard operates in two primary modes: Basic mode and Advanced mode.

Basic Mode:

  • Debug Code LED: Displays progress and error codes during POST (Power-On Self-Test) and shows the CPU core temperature after successful system startup. Users should refer to the motherboard's user manual for detailed Debug Code LED interpretations.
  • Debug Status: Provides visual error indicators for CPU Error (CPU not detected or failed), DDR Error (DDR memory not detected or failed), and VGA Error (GPU not detected or failed). These errors are accompanied by an alarm sound, which can be customized via MSI Center. A "Boot Fail" indicator is also present if the booting device is not detected or fails.
  • Tuning Controller: This menu allows for monitoring, control, and overclocking.
    • CPU CLK - / +: Increases or decreases the CPU base clock/CPU ratio. This requires configuring the BIOS (BIOS > OC > Direct OC Button) to select the CPU BCLK or CPU Ratio for overclocking.
    • Safe Boot: Boots the system in Safe Boot mode with default and lower PCIe settings.
    • OC Retry: Retries OC settings if the system fails to boot successfully.
    • Clear CMOS: Resets BIOS to defaults.
    • Power On/Restart: Powers on or restarts the computer. The Tuning Controller menu is only accessible during the POST process.
  • Countdown Timer: Allows users to set a countdown timer. The timer can be started, stopped, and reset. When the countdown is complete, an alarm sounds, which can be stopped to return to the timer setting page.
  • Temperature Display: Shows the ambient temperature, refreshing every minute.
  • Humidity Display: Shows the ambient humidity, refreshing every minute.

Advanced Mode:

Advanced mode requires the MSI Center software to be installed and configured. If MSI Center is not installed, the dashboard will display a warning, and advanced mode will be disabled.

  • EZ Tuning: Provides a menu for easy tuning options.
    • CPU CLK - / +: Similar to basic mode, allows for increasing/decreasing CPU base clock/ratio, requiring BIOS configuration.
    • Shut Down/Restart: Powers off or restarts the computer.
  • Music Player Shortcut: Opens the system's music player.
  • Calculator Shortcut: Opens the system's calculator.
  • Web Browser Shortcut: Opens the default web browser.
  • MSI Center Shortcut: Opens the MSI Center application.
  • M-Vision Dashboard Setting Menu (via MSI Center):
    • Set APP Shortcut: Configures application or web page shortcuts for the dashboard. Users can select executable files for applications or web page shortcuts added to the desktop.
    • Brightness: Adjusts the screen brightness of the M-Vision Dashboard.
    • Direction: Selects the screen direction for the dashboard.
    • LCD Display: Turns the LCD display on or off.
    • Mute: Mutes the sound of the M-Vision Dashboard.
    • Alarm Setting: Sets alarm and warning sounds. Supports .WAV / .MP3 audio files, with a maximum duration of 5 seconds.
    • Hardware Monitor: Selects which hardware monitoring items (up to 16) are displayed sequentially on the dashboard.
    • Video Image: Uploads custom animation files (.BMP, .JPG, .PNG, .GIF, .MP4) with a resolution of 800x480 px and a maximum duration of 100 seconds.
    • Customize Banner: Uploads custom banners (.BMP, .JPG, .PNG, .GIF, .MP4) with a resolution of 800x480 px.
    • System Clock: Selects the display style of the system clock.
    • Live Weather: Enables or disables the display of live weather for a designated city.
  • Power On the Computer: When the system is in S5 (Suspend to Disk) or shutdown state, touching the M-VISION Dashboard (specifically the Power On tab in the Tuning Controller menu) will awaken and power on the system.
  • Others:
    • S4/S5 (Suspend to Disk/Shutdown) state: Displays a specific animation.
    • Flash BIOS states: Displays "Update" during BIOS update, "Finish" upon completion, "Flash Fail" if the update fails, and "No File" if no BIOS file is found or readable.

Maintenance Features:

  • Software Updates: The functionality and customization of the M-VISION Dashboard are heavily reliant on the MSI Center software. Regular updates to MSI Center would ensure access to the latest features and improvements.
  • Customization Management: Users can manage custom banners, video images, and alarm sounds through MSI Center, allowing for personalization and refreshing the dashboard's appearance.
  • Error Reporting: The Debug Code LED and debug status indicators provide immediate feedback on system issues, aiding in troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • BIOS Reset: The "Clear CMOS" function offers a quick way to reset BIOS settings to defaults, which can be useful for resolving configuration-related issues.
