Why MTD Engine fails to start?
    • D
      Debbie SmithAug 7, 2025
Your MTD engine might fail to start due to several reasons: the engine may be flooded from excessive priming, in which case you should wait at least ten minutes before starting. Other potential causes include a disconnected spark plug wire (connect it to the spark plug), an empty fuel tank or stale fuel (fill with clean, fresh gasoline), the engine not being choked (choke the engine), a faulty spark plug (clean, adjust gap, or replace it), the engine not being primed (prime the engine 3 times), the ignition key installed improperly (insert the ignition key all the way), or the throttle being in the stop position (move the throttle to the FAST/RUN position).

What to do if MTD 357CC Engine runs erratically?
    • B
      Brendan PerezAug 27, 2025
If your MTD engine is running erratically, it could be due to a few reasons. Check the spark plug wire to ensure it is connected and tightened. Also, the spark plug could be scorched, defective, or have an incorrectly set electrode gap, so readjust the gap or replace the spark plug. Stale fuel, running the unit with the choke on (move choke to off), or water/dirt in the fuel system (drain and refill with fresh fuel) might also cause this issue.
