Why MTD Yard Machines 020 engine fails to start?
    • T
      thomas85Aug 3, 2025
Your MTD Lawn Mower engine might fail to start due to several reasons. First, ensure that the blade control handle is engaged. Second, check that the spark plug wire is connected to the spark plug. Also, the fuel tank might be empty or contain stale fuel, so fill it with clean, fresh gasoline. If these steps don't work, the engine may not be primed, the spark plug might be faulty (clean, adjust gap, or replace it), the fuel line could be blocked (clean it), or the engine might be flooded (wait a few minutes to restart, without priming).

      Denise GarciaAug 7, 2025
An MTD Lawn Mower engine may run erratically for several reasons. Check if the spark plug wire is loose and connect and tighten it. A blocked fuel line or stale fuel can also cause this issue, so clean the fuel line and refill the tank with clean, fresh gasoline. Additionally, the gas cap vent might be plugged, so clear the vent. Water or dirt in the fuel system can also be a culprit; drain the fuel tank and carburetor and refill with fresh fuel. For dirty air cleaner or carburetor adjustment, refer to the engine manual.
