Overview

This document describes the Multicomp Pro Mini AC Current Leakage Tester, Model No. MP780050, a portable device designed for measuring AC current leakage.

Function Description

The Mini AC Current Leakage Tester is used to measure AC current, specifically leakage current, in electrical systems. It can also be used to measure load current. The device provides a digital readout of the measured current.

Important Technical Specifications

Display: The tester features a 3½ Digit (1999 count) LCD display. Resolution: It offers a resolution of 100µAAC. Batteries: The device is powered by two AAA 1.5V batteries. Jaw Opening: The clamp jaws have an opening of 30mm (1.2"). Auto Power Off: To conserve battery life, the tester automatically powers off after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity. Operating Conditions:

  • 0°C to 30°C (32°F to 86°F) at 90% Relative Humidity
  • 30°C to 40°C (86°F to 104°F) at 75% Relative Humidity
  • 40°C to 50°C (104°F to 122°F) at 45% Relative Humidity Storage Conditions: -25°C to 60°C (-14°F to 140°F) at < 90% Relative Humidity Altitude: Operates safely up to <3000 meters. Dimensions (H x W x D): 182 x 61 x 34mm. Safety Compliance: CAT II 600V.

Accuracy (at 60Hz):

  • 200mA Range: Resolution 100µA, Accuracy ±(5.0% of reading + 8 digits)
  • 2A Range: Resolution 1mA, Accuracy ±(5.0% of reading + 10 digits)
  • 200A Range: Resolution 100mA, Accuracy ±(2.5% of reading + 10 digits)

Usage Features

AC Current Measurement: To perform an AC current measurement, the user sets the rotary function switch to the desired current range (200mA, 2A, or 200A). The clamp jaws are opened using the jaw trigger and then clamped around the conductor to be tested, ensuring the conductor is centered within the jaws. The measured value is then displayed on the LCD screen.

Data HOLD Function: The tester includes a Data HOLD function, activated by pressing the "HOLD" key. This feature freezes the current reading on the LCD, indicated by "HOLD" on the display. To release the hold and return to normal operation, the "HOLD" key is pressed momentarily again.

Backlight Function: For improved visibility in low-light conditions, the LCD backlight can be activated by pressing and holding the "HOLD" key for more than 2 seconds. This action also simultaneously activates the Data Hold function. To turn off the backlight, the "HOLD" key is pressed and held for more than 2 seconds again.

Product Overview Components:

  1. Current sense jaws: The clamping mechanism for measuring current.
  2. Rotary function switch: Used to select the desired current range (OFF, 200mA, 2A, 200A).
  3. Data HOLD and backlight button: A multi-function button for freezing readings and controlling the display backlight.
  4. LCD display: Shows the measured values and indicators like "HOLD" and low battery.
  5. Clamp trigger: Used to open the current sense jaws.
  6. MAX button: (Function not detailed in the provided text, but present on the device).

Safety Instructions:

  • Always follow safety operation instructions.
  • Inspect the jaws and case insulation for any breakage or abnormality before use; discontinue use if found.
  • Never operate the meter with the battery cover open.
  • Set the function switch to the correct range before connecting to the current source.
  • Do not apply voltage exceeding the specified maximum.
  • Exercise caution with voltages above 25VAC rms due to shock hazard.
  • Use the product only for its intended purpose.
  • Turn the tester off when not in use to save battery.
  • Remove batteries if the tester will not be used for long periods.
  • Replace batteries immediately when the low battery warning appears to prevent inaccurate readings and potential safety risks.

Maintenance Features

Battery Replacement: When the low battery symbol appears on the LCD, the two AAA (1.5V) batteries must be replaced. To do this, the tester should be powered down, the rear battery compartment screw removed, and the cover lifted off. The old batteries are then replaced with new ones, ensuring correct polarity. Finally, the compartment cover is secured with the screw.

Cleaning: The tester should be cleaned with a clean, soft cloth. Harsh chemicals, abrasives, or solvents that could damage the tester should not be used.

Waste Disposal Information: The device is marked with symbols indicating that Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and waste batteries require separate collection. These items should not be disposed of with general household waste but should be taken to designated recycling points for treatment, recovery, and recycling of materials. Information on local battery and WEEE recycling schemes can be obtained from the local authority or battery retailers.
