Why won't the rear or side burners on my Napoleon Grill light with the igniter?

  If the rear and side burners won't light with the igniter but will light with a match, it could be due to a dead or incorrectly installed battery. Also, check for loose electrode wire or switch terminal wires. Lifting flames on the burner can also cause this issue. Replace the battery with a premium heavy-duty battery. Ensure the electrode wire is firmly pushed onto the terminal on the back of the igniter. Check that the lead wires from the module to the ignition switch (if equipped) are firmly pushed onto their respective terminals. Close the air shutter slightly; see instructions related to yellow flames.

  If the main burner will not light with the igniter but will light with a match, the jet-fire outlet may be dirty or clogged. Clean the jet-fire outlet with a soft bristle brush.

  Low heat or flame can occur due to several reasons. If you're using propane, ensure you're following the correct lighting procedure, with all gas grill valves off when the tank valve is opened, and open the tank slowly to equalize pressure. Refer to the lighting instructions. For natural gas, the supply line might be undersized, so the pipe must be sized according to the installation code. For both gas types, improper preheating can be the cause. Preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes.

Make sure sear plates are installed with the holes towards the front and the slots on the bottom, referring to the assembly instructions. Preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes. Clean the sear plates and drip pan regularly, and do not line the pan with aluminum foil. Refer to the cleaning instructions for proper cleaning procedures.

  A low burner output with rumbling noise could be due to several factors: * Lack of gas in the propane cylinder. * A pinched supply hose. * A dirty or clogged orifice. * Spider webs or other matter in the venturi tube. * The propane regulator being in a “low flow” state. Check the gas level, reposition the supply hose, clean the burner orifice and venturi tube. Also, ensure you carefully follow the lighting procedure, with all gas grill valves off when the tank valve is turned on, and turn the tank on slowly to allow pressure to equalize.   If the infrared burner flashes back, making a loud “whoosh” sound and growing dim, it could be due to: * Ceramic tiles overloaded with grease. * Clogged ports. * Overheating due to inadequate ventilation. * Cracked ceramic tile. * Leaking gasket or weld failure. Turn the burner off and allow it to cool for at least two minutes. Relight it and burn on high for at least five minutes, or until the ceramic tiles are evenly glowing red. Ensure that no more than 75% of the grill surface is covered. If cracks are found, contact your authorized Napoleon dealer to order a replacement burner assembly.
