  Your Nikon Digital Camera might be turning off unexpectedly due to several reasons: the battery is exhausted; the camera automatically turns off to save power if no operations are performed for an extended period; the camera and battery may not work properly at low temperatures; the Charging AC Adapter is connected while the camera is on; the USB cable connecting the camera to the computer or printer has been disconnected (reconnect the USB cable); or the internal temperature of the camera or the memory card is high (leave the camera off until it has cooled and then turn it on again).

  If the battery in your Nikon Digital Camera cannot be charged, confirm all connections. Also, check if 'Off' is selected for Charge by computer in the setup menu. When charging by connecting the camera to a computer, battery charging stops when the camera is turned off or if the computer is suspended (sleeping), and the camera may turn off. Depending on the computer specifications, settings, and status, it may be impossible to charge the battery in the camera via computer connection.

It could also be in standby mode for saving power; if so, press the power switch, shutter-release button, A button, c button, or b (e movie-record) button. If the flash lamp flashes, wait until flash has charged. Also, the camera and computer could be connected via USB cable, or the camera and TV are connected via audio/ video cable.
