Overview

The OMRON E8F Pressure Sensor is a sophisticated device designed for precise pressure measurement and control, featuring an easy-to-see digital display. This sensor is engineered to offer reliable performance in a variety of industrial applications, with a strong emphasis on user-friendly operation and robust construction.

Function Description

The E8F Pressure Sensor's primary function is to detect and measure pressure, providing both ON/OFF output for control and linear output for continuous monitoring. It supports a wide range of pressure types, including positive and negative gauge pressure, with various measurement units such as kPa, kgf/cm², and cmHg. The sensor is equipped with two output modes—Hysteresis mode and Wind mode—which ensure flexible and precise pressure control tailored to specific application requirements.

In Hysteresis mode, the ON point is set to be larger than the OFF point, providing a clear differential for control actions. Conversely, in Wind mode, the ON point is set smaller than the OFF point, offering a different control logic. These modes allow the sensor to be adapted for diverse control scenarios, such as maintaining pressure within a specific range or detecting pressure changes.

The ON/OFF output is managed by an NPN open collector, capable of handling a load current of up to 100 mA and an output applied voltage of up to 30 VDC. The linear output provides a continuous voltage signal ranging from 1 to 5 V, with an output impedance of 1 kΩ, suitable for integration into analog control systems. An error output, also an NPN open collector, is included to signal malfunctions or excessive current conditions, enhancing system reliability.

The sensor incorporates a power-ON reset time of 200 ms, ensuring quick initialization. It also features ON-delay and OFF-delay timer settings, adjustable from 0 to 90 ms in 10-ms increments, which can be used to prevent chattering or to implement specific timing sequences in control logic. The ability to set normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) output configurations further expands its versatility.

Usage Features

The E8F Pressure Sensor is designed for ease of use, featuring a 2½-digit LCD display that provides clear pressure readings and operational status. The display shows the third digit as either 0 or 1, while the first and second digits range from 0 to 9, allowing for precise numerical representation. A red indicator illuminates when the ON/OFF output transistor is turned ON, providing immediate visual feedback on the output status. A green indicator signifies normal operation and turns OFF during malfunctioning or error detection, while flashing indicates load short-circuiting or overcurrent.

Setting the ON and OFF points is intuitive, performed by pressing the MODE Key and then using the Up or Down Key to adjust the values displayed on the LCD. The sensor allows for setting ON/OFF delay timers and configuring the output as normally open or normally closed. A buzzer function, with various modes, can be enabled to provide audible alerts for ON/OFF output status, error detection, or key presses during setting.

The sensor is compatible with non-corrosive and inert gases, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial environments. It is crucial to filter the gas with an appropriate air filter to ensure it is free of moisture or oil, thereby protecting the sensor's internal components. The sensor's compact design and SI-compatible models enhance its adaptability to different system designs and international standards.

Maintenance Features

The E8F Pressure Sensor is built for durability and ease of maintenance. It boasts an IEC IP66 degree of protection, making it washable and resistant to dust and strong jets of water. This feature is particularly beneficial in environments where regular cleaning or exposure to moisture is common. For applications requiring IP66 enclosure rating, it is essential to connect a standard silicone tube with a 2-mm inner diameter and 4-mm outer diameter to the atmosphere inlet.

The sensor includes self-diagnostic functions that provide error indications on the LCD, such as "E1" for excessive current, "E2" for zero point adjustment issues, "E3" for excessive pressure, "E4" for reversed pressure, "E5" for sensor failure, and "E6" for out-of-rated voltage. These error codes simplify troubleshooting and help identify the root cause of operational problems quickly. In case of an error other than a load short-circuit or excessive current, the green indicator turns OFF, and the error output transistor turns ON, allowing for external error detection and nullification of the ON/OFF output.

Zero point adjustment is typically not necessary but can be performed if the zero point shifts due to secular changes. This is done by pressing the ZERO Key when no pressure is imposed, ensuring accurate readings over time. The sensor's robust construction includes a zinc die-cast pressure leading part with an R(PT) 1/8 taper screw and M5 x P0.8 female screw, designed for secure and leak-free connections. Proper tightening torques for these connections and for mounting brackets are specified to ensure long-term reliability and prevent damage.

The E8F Pressure Sensor is designed to withstand harsh industrial conditions, with a vibration resistance of 10 to 500 Hz at 1.5-mm double amplitude or 100 m/s² for 2 hours in X, Y, and Z directions, and a shock resistance of 500 m/s² for 2 times in X, Y, and Z directions. Its operating temperature range is 0°C to 50°C, and storage temperature is -10°C to 60°C, with an ambient humidity of 35% to 85% (with no condensation). These features contribute to its long operational life and reduced maintenance requirements.
