If you're not getting any sound from the TV through your Onkyo Stereo Receiver, first ensure that the input selector on the receiver is set to the correct terminal to which the TV is connected. If your TV does not support the ARC (Audio Return Channel) function, connect the TV to the receiver using both an HDMI cable and a digital optical cable.

Why does my Onkyo TX-NR696 turn off unexpectedly?
C
Corey WeaverAug 12, 2025
If your Onkyo Stereo Receiver turns off unexpectedly, it could be due to a few reasons. First, check if the 'Auto Standby' feature is enabled in the Setup menu under '5. Hardware' - 'Power Management,' as this will automatically put the unit into standby mode. Another possibility is that the protection circuit has been activated due to the unit overheating. To resolve this, ensure there is sufficient ventilation around the unit and allow it to cool down before turning it on again. If neither of these resolves the issue, unplug the power cord immediately and contact your dealer or Onkyo support.

How to fix 'AMP Diag Mode' on Onkyo TX-NR696 Stereo Receiver?
J
Jeffrey DavisAug 20, 2025
If 'AMP Diag Mode' appears on the display of your Onkyo Stereo Receiver when you turn it on, the protection circuit function may have been activated. To resolve this, set the receiver to standby, then reconnect the speaker cables, ensuring that no stray wires are sticking out from the speaker terminals. Twist any exposed wires at the tip of the speaker cable to prevent them from touching. If the issue persists, immediately set the unit to standby, remove the power plug from the outlet, and consult a dealer, as the unit may be malfunctioning.
