Overview

The ORION L66-13 stretch-wrapping equipment is a semi-automatic machine designed for efficient and safe pallet wrapping. It features a robust steel structure and sophisticated control systems, ensuring high durability and low maintenance requirements. The advanced control systems allow for operation without the need for special operator expertise.

Function Description:

The primary function of the ORION L66-13 is to apply stretch film to palletized loads, securing them for transport and storage. The machine operates semi-automatically, meaning an operator loads the pallet and initiates the wrapping cycle, but the wrapping process itself is automated. It offers various wrapping patterns, including "SPIRAL UP ONLY" and "BOTTOM WRAPS FIRST," allowing for customization based on load requirements. The machine also includes features for film tension control, carriage speed adjustment, and top/bottom wrap count settings.

Usage Features:

The ORION L66-13 is designed for ease of use. The control panel features clearly labeled buttons for START, STOP, UP ONLY, UP/DOWN, WRAP MODE, TOP WRAPS, REINFORCE WRAP, TURNTABLE JOG, PHOTOEYE ON/OFF, DOWN, UP, POWER, CARRIAGE JOG, CARRIAGE UP SPEED, and CARRIAGE DOWN SPEED.

  • Starting a Cycle: Pressing the START button initiates the wrapping cycle. The cycle can be stopped at any point by pressing the STOP button.
  • Wrap Pattern Selection: The "SPIRAL UP / UP/DOWN" switch allows selection of different wrap patterns. "UP ONLY" wraps from bottom to top, while "UP/DOWN" wraps both up and down.
  • Top and Bottom Wraps: Dedicated selectors allow the operator to set the desired number of top and bottom wraps.
  • Film Tension: A film tension knob allows adjustment of the film tension from 0 to 10, influencing the stretch and tightness of the wrap.
  • Carriage Speed: A potentiometer controls the carriage speed, which affects the overlap of the film.
  • Load Height Detection: A photocell automatically detects the load height, ensuring the film carriage stops at the appropriate position.
  • Film Loading: The manual provides detailed instructions for loading the film roll onto the carriage mandrel, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the tacky surface of the film is inward on the load.
  • Emergency Stop: An EMERGENCY-STOP button is provided for immediate shutdown in case of an emergency.

Maintenance Features:

The ORION L66-13 is designed for long-term, productive life with simple maintenance procedures.

  • General Maintenance: Regular inspection of the machine is recommended, including checking for loose connections, worn brushes in motors, and proper lubrication.
  • Reducer Oil Change: The reducer oil should be checked for tightness after the first week of operation and changed every six months or at least every 1800 hours of operation, whichever comes first. A list of recommended reducer oils is provided.
  • Ring Bearing Maintenance: The ring bearing (located under the turntable) should be re-lubricated internally and externally. Grease should be injected around the perimeter of the ring every 2 months or 750 hours of operation.
  • Tower Raceways Maintenance: The film distributor (carriage) slides on plastic guides. These should be cleaned and re-greased approximately every 600 hours of machine operation. If the machine works in a dusty and corrosive environment, raceways should be re-greased more often (at least every 100 hours).
  • Chain Maintenance: The chain should be cleaned and wiped with an oily cloth every month. When the machine is working in a dusty and damp environment, cleaning may be necessary to repeat the cleaning operation more often. The chain lubricants should be the most common chain lubricants on the market. The chain tension should be checked and tightened as needed, with the first tension adjustment recommended after two weeks of machine usage.
  • Pneumatic System Maintenance: The air supply system should be checked weekly and kept free from moisture. In cold environments, it may be necessary to drain the air supply system daily.
  • CAM Follower Maintenance: The cam followers have deep grease pockets and do not need frequent relubrication. The portion of the tower on which the cam followers run should be cleaned and regreased every 300 hours of operation. If the machine operates in a dusty or corrosive environment, the tower should be relubricated more often.
  • Proximity Sensor Adjustment: Instructions are provided for adjusting the feed back proximity sensor, which may need adjustment if the cam is shown on drawing # 419139.
  • Motor Control Board Adjustments: Detailed instructions are provided for calibrating the Multistretch Interface Board (MIB-336) and the Turntable & Tower Motor Control Boards (850M & 850DM), including adjustments for gain, zero, trip, acceleration, speed control, deceleration, bias, span, and current limit. These adjustments ensure optimal performance and motor protection.
