Overview

This document provides a comprehensive manual for the Ozito Cordless Chainsaw, an 18V Lithium-ion powered tool designed for DIY use.

Function Description:

The Ozito Cordless Chainsaw is a portable, battery-operated cutting tool primarily designed for felling small trees, limbing (removing branches from a fallen tree), bucking (cutting logs into lengths), and pruning (removing limbs or branches from a standing tree). Its cordless design offers greater mobility and convenience compared to corded alternatives. The chainsaw features a chain brake for safety, which stops the chain within a tenth of a second, either manually or automatically in the event of kickback. An automatic oiling system ensures continuous lubrication of the chain and guide bar during operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 18V
  • Battery: 1.5Ah Li-ion
  • Charging Time: 3 Hours
  • Bar Length: 254mm (10")
  • Chain Pitch: 9.53mm (3/8")
  • Chain Speed: 4.3m/s
  • Oil Tank Capacity: 220ml
  • Weight with Battery: 3.3kg
  • Chain File: 3.96mm (5/32")
  • Chain Gauge: 1.1mm (0.043")
  • Number of Links: 40 Links

Usage Features:

The chainsaw is designed for ease of use and safety.

  • Assembly: The manual details how to fit the chain and guide bar, emphasizing the importance of wearing gloves due to the chain's sharpness. The guide bar locking knob is used to secure these components, and the chain tension pin ensures proper alignment.
  • Oil System: It requires "Chain Bar Oil" and has a 220ml oil tank capacity. Users are instructed to fill the tank when the oil level is below the minimum mark on the oil level window. A lubricating system check involves holding the chainsaw over light-colored paper to observe oil spray, confirming proper lubrication. The manual notes that oil leakage during long periods of disuse is normal and advises draining the oil if the tool will be unused for an extended time.
  • Battery Fitting & Charging: The 1.5Ah Li-ion battery requires approximately 3 hours for a full charge. The battery charger cradle slides onto the battery until it locks into place. A battery charge indicator with green LEDs shows the state of charge: 1 LED for immediate charging, 2-3 LEDs for low charge, and 4 LEDs for a fully charged battery. The battery is inserted by aligning its ribs with the recess below the handle and sliding it until the release tab clicks. Removal involves pressing and holding the battery release tab.
  • Switching On/Off: To start, the chain brake is pulled towards the user, both handles are gripped, the lock-off button is pressed with the thumb, and the trigger switch is squeezed. Releasing the trigger switch stops the chainsaw.
  • Cutting Operations:
    • General Cutting: Users are advised to press the bucking spikes against the timber before the chain makes contact. Cutting starts by holding the chainsaw by the front handle and raising the rear handle. For thicker timber, light pressure is applied to the front handle, and the chainsaw is drawn back slightly before reapplying bucking spikes lower down to finish the cut. The chainsaw should be withdrawn from the cut while the chain is still running.
    • Felling a Tree: This operation should only be performed by trained operators. Factors like wind direction, branch position, tree lean, and ease of subsequent limbing/bucking must be considered.
    • Limbing: Branches are removed from a fallen tree. Cuts should be made on the opposite side of the bending direction to prevent pinching.
    • Bucking: Logs are cut into lengths. For logs on the ground, a halfway cut is made, then the log is rolled over to complete the cut from the opposite side. For supported logs, an upward cut from the bottom one-third is followed by a downward cut from the top.
    • Pruning: This involves removing limbs from a standing tree. Users are warned against unstable footholds, overreaching, and cutting above shoulder height. Both hands must be used, and cuts should start from the bottom, finishing from the top.
  • Safety Features: The chainsaw incorporates a chain brake and a lock-off button to prevent accidental starting. Users are advised to wear gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and other protective equipment. The manual emphasizes maintaining a firm grip, proper footing, and avoiding overreaching to prevent kickback.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the chainsaw's performance and longevity.

  • Adjusting Chain Tension: The chain tension should be adjusted before first use, after 2-3 minutes of operation, and every 30 minutes thereafter. This involves loosening the guide bar locking knob, adjusting the chain tension screw (clockwise to increase tension, counter-clockwise to decrease), and then re-locking the guide bar. Correct tension allows a 3mm gap when the chain is pulled from the guide bar. Over-tensioning can reduce chain and guide bar life.
  • Maintaining the Guide Bar: Sawdust should be removed from the guide bar and its groove. The oil port must be checked for clogs, and the nose sprocket should be greased. The guide bar should be reversed every 8 working hours to ensure uniform wear. Guide rails should be checked frequently and squared up with a flat file if necessary.
  • Chain Sharpening: The chain should be sharpened regularly using a round 3.96mm (5/32") chain file. The file should be kept level with the top plate of the tooth, using outward strokes and maintaining a 30° angle between the chain and file. All cutters must have the same width and length after sharpening. For professional sharpening, users are advised to visit an authorized repair center every 3-4 uses.
  • Cleaning and Storing: Handles should be kept free of grease. The device should be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild washing-up liquid. For extended storage, the chain oil should be removed from the tank, and the chain and cutter rail should be immersed in an oil bath and wrapped in oil paper. The guide bar cover must be in place during storage. The chainsaw should be stored in a safe, dry place out of reach of children.
  • Spare Parts: Replacement chains can be purchased through Ozito spare parts or local Bunnings Warehouse, matching the pitch, gauge, and number of links (9.53mm (3/8"), 1.1mm (.043"), 40 Links).

The manual also includes a 3-year replacement warranty for DIY use, with a 12-month warranty for Lithium-ion batteries. Consumable parts like the guide bar and chain are excluded. The warranty is void if the tool is operated on an incorrect voltage, shows signs of abuse or alteration, lacks proper maintenance, is disassembled, or used professionally/industrially.
