Preparation
Makeyourtroubleshootingeasierbypreparingas
follows:
• workinaclean,well-lightedplace;
• havepropertoolsandmaterialsnearby;
• haveanadequatesupplyofclean
petroleum-basedsolvent.

TOCOMPLYWITHOSHAANDOTHERMAXIMUMAIR
PRESSUREREQUIREMENTS.
Preliminary Checks
Hydraulicsystemsareoftentrouble-free.Hence,the
problemanoperatorcomplainsofcouldbecausedby
somethingotherthanthehydrauliccomponents.
Thus,onceyouhavedeterminedthataproblem
exists,startwiththeeasy-to-checkitems,suchas:
• partsdamagedfromimpactthatwerenotproperly
repaired,orthatshouldhavebeenreplaced;and
• improperreplacementpartsusedinprevious
servicing
• mechanicallinkageproblemssuchasbinding,
broken,orloosepartsorslippingbelts

Hydraulic Components
Ifyouthinktheproblemiscausedbyahydraulic
component,startbycheckingtheeasy-to-reachitems.
Checkallhosesandlinesforcracks,hardening,orother
signsofwear.Rerouteanyusablehosesthatarekinked,
severelybent,orthatrestagainsthotengineparts.Look
forleaks,especiallyatcouplingsandttings.Replace
anyhosesorlinesthatdon’tmeetsystemowand
pressureratings.
Next,gotothereservoirandlterorlters.Checkuid
levelandlookforairbubbles.Checkthelter(s).Alter
withamaximum40micronltrationisrecommendedfor
the3Zsystem.
Visuallycheckothercomponentstoseeiftheyare
looselymounted,showsignsofleaks,orotherdamage
orwear.
Excessiveheatinahydraulicsystemcancreate
problemsthatcaneasilybeoverlooked.Every
systemhasitslimitationforthemaximumamountof
temperature.
Afterthetemperatureisattainedandpassed,the
followingcanoccur:
• oilsealleaks
• lossofeciencysuchasspeedandtorque
• pumplossofeciency
• pumpfailure
• hosesbecomehardandbrittle
• hosefailure
Anormaltemperaturerangemeansanecient
hydraulicsystem.Consultthemanualspublished
byequipmentand/orcomponentmanufacturersfor
maximumallowabletemperatureandhydraulictests
thatmaybenecessarytorunontheperformanceofthe
hydrauliccomponents.The3Zisnotrecommendedfor
hydraulicsystemswithmaximumtemperaturesabove
200°F(93.3°C).
