Sewing on zippers
There are various methods of sewing
on zippers. For skirts, we recommend
the fully concealed zipper, for men’s
and ladies’ trousers the semi concealed
zipper. Various zippers are available.
We recommend using a metal zipper for
strong fabrics such as denim. For all other
materials we recommend a plastic zipper.
It is important for all types of zippers to
sew very close to the edge of the teeth of
the zipper. This is why it is possible to
insert the zipper foot either on the right or
the left of the presser foot holder.
To sew the left side of the zipper, attach
zipper foot with the right side pin (A).
To sew the right side of zipper, attach the
zipper foot with the left side pin(B).
The trouser zipper
Iron the seam allowances, making
sure that the underlap extends by about 4
mm.
Baste the zipper under the underlap
so that the teeth are visible.
Insert the zipper foot on the right side
(A) to sew on the left side of the zipper.
Stitch along the edge of the zipper.
Just before the end of the seam, open
the zipper and À nish sewing the seam.
Close the zipper and baste the overlap
evenly to the other half of the zipper.
Then sew through the basted seam.
Note: To achieve a perfect seam, we
recommend using the edge guide.
