OPERATION
3-4.1b Engaging Pump, Ford Engine With Ford 6R140 Transmission
Pump Engagement - Ford Engine
1. With the engine running at idle, shift transmission to NEUTRAL (N).
2. Apply parking brake.
NOTE: If parking brake is OFF, safety interlocks prevent hand throttles or pressure governors from operating.
NOTE: If parking brake is released during pump operation, the pump will disengage. Engine speed will fall to idle and water pressure
will fall.
3. Chock the wheels.
NOTE: Chock front and rear of tire every time vehicle is parked.
4. Keep feet off pedals.
Keep pump water cool. Do not operate the pump for extended periods with the discharge valves closed or the pump may
overheat. The pump is fitted with a thermal relief valve to help prevent overheating.
Engage pump only at engine idle speed.
Supply water to pump immediately after engaging pump. Running pump dry for more than a few minutes will cause damage.
Air pressure gauges should indicate 80 PSI or greater. Pump may not shift out of road position if the air pressure is below 80 PSI.
5. Engage the pump shift control lever.
Flip pump shift control lever DOWN to engage pump. Wait up to 4 seconds for pump engagement.
