MODE
SWITCH
(REV
MODE)
There are three settings:
One way mode <= position
When
the
switch
is
set
to
this
position,
playback
or
recording
is
performed
on
one
side
of
the
tape
only.
When
the
tape
reaches
the
end
of
the
side,
it
stops
automatically
(auto
stop
function).
Two way mode = position
When
the
switch
is
set
to
this
position,
playback
or
recording
can
be
performed
on
both
sides
of
the
tape.
When
the
tape
reaches
the
end
of
the
first
(forward)
side,
its
direction
is
automatically
reversed,
and
playback
or
recording
continues
on
the
other
(reverse)
side.
When
it
reaches
the
end
of
the
reverse
side,
the
tape
stops
automatically
(auto
stop
function).
ff
playback
or
recording
is
started
from
the
reverse
side,
the
tape
will
stop
when
it
reaches
the
end
of
that
side.
Repeat mode <2 position
When
the
switch
is
set
to
this
position
for
playback,
both
sides
of
the
tape
are
played
back
repeatedly
until
the
stop
(
M}
button
is
pressed,
or
until
the
tape
has
been
played
completely
15
times
(16
sides).
if
the
pause
button
is
pressed
to
pause
the
tape,
and
then
playback
is
restarted,
the
repeat
mode
starts
over
from
the
begin-
ning,
and
will
play
the
tape
15
times
(sixteen
sides).
When
the
switch
is
set
to
this
position
for
recording,
both
sides
are
recorded,
and
then
the
tape
stops,
as
described
above
for
the
two
way
mode.

DESIGNED
FOR
DOUBLE
DECKS
(system
remote
control)

Selecting DECK |
In
order
to
operate
DECK
|
with
the
remote
control
unit,
adjust
the
unit
as
follows:
With
the
power
off,
press
and
hold
the
stop
{
™)
button
of
DECK
|,
and
turn
the
power
on,
Continue
to
hold
the
stop
(M)
button
for
approximately
five
seconds.
DECK
|
can
now
be
Operated
using
the
remote
control
unit,
but
DECK
Il
cannot.
Switching to DECK Il
To
restore
remote
contro!
operation
to
DECK
Il,
press
the
stop
(
@
}
button
of
DECK
il
while
DECK
il
is
in
stop
mode.
DECK
!!
can
now
be
operated
using
the
remote
control
unit.
Remote
contro!
opera-
tion
can
be
switched
back
and
forth
between
decks
by
pressing
the
stop
button
of
the
desired
DECK
while
it
is
in
stop
mode.
NOTE:
if
the
power
is
turned
off,
or
if
a
power
failure
or
a
sudden
change
in
the
power
supply
(caused
by
lightning,
etc.)
occurs,
the
unit
is
reset
to
its
original
state.
Only
DECK
Il
can
be
operated
by
remote
control.
To
restore
operation
ta
either
deck,
repeat
the
above
proce-
dure
from
the
beginning.
DOLBY
NR
&
DOLBY
HX
PRO
|
@ Dolby NR Systems
Dolby
NR
systems
are
designed
to
reduce
the
amount
of
tape
hiss,
mainly
in
the
treble
components.
During
recording,
the
high-pitched
pianissimo
sounds
which
are
most
characteristic
of
audible
noise
are
boosted,
and
during
playback,
only
these
boosted
sections
are
attenuated,
so
that
tape
sound
is
returned
to
normal.
As
a
result
the
naise
is
attenuated
by
an
amount
equai
to
the
boosting
in
the
8
<RRB1120>
En
treble
range.
The
Dolby
B-type
NR
system
reduces
noise
in
the
treble
range,
Cutting
tape
hiss
and
expanding
the
dynamic
range.
The
Dal-
by
C-type
NR
system
is
even
more
eftective
in
reducing
noise,
as
it
reduces
noise
from
the
mid-range
on.
NOTE:
When
a
tape
has
been
recorded
using
the
Dolby
B-type
or
C-type
NR
system,
make
sure
that
the
DOLBY
NR
switches
are
set
to
the
same
position
during
playback.

Dolby
HX
PRO
Headroom
Extension
System
The
Dolby
HX
PRO
system
controls
the
bias
current
during
record-
ing
and
maintains
it
at
the
optimal
level
based
on
the
amount
of
the
high-frequency
components
in
the
music
signal.
It
therefore
pro-
vides
excellent
recording
quality
even
when
recording
signals
from.
digital
sources,
which
contain
a
large
amount
of
high-frequency
components.
To
guarantee
optimal
results,
the
HX
PRO
system
is
activated
automatically
when
recording
begins.
Since
this
system
controls
the
quality
of
recording
itself,
the
clarity
of
the
sound
will
be
maintained
even
when
the
tapes
are
played
back
on
another
cas-
sette
deck
which
does
not
contain
the
HX
PRO
Headroom
Exten-
sion
System.
AUTO BLE
With
commercially
available
cassette
tapes,
sensitivity
and
frequen-
cy
characteristics
might
differ
slightly
from
one
another,
even
though
the
same
sound
adjustment
is
set
for
them.
To
utilize
tape
characteristics
to
the
maximum
possible
and
realize
an
ideal
record-
ing
which
reproduces
the
source
exactly,
optimum
recording
level
(sensitivity)
and
equalizer
values
must
be
set
accordingly
for
each
tape.
In
many
conventional
tape
decks,
standard
values
are
fixed
for
standard
tapes,
thus
nullifying
the
subtle
differences
between
individual
tapes.
Perfect
tuning
by
ear
through
use
of
fine
adjust-
ment
controllers
for
bias
and
sensitivity
is
difficult
and
requires
a
lot
of
effort.
It
is
especially
difficult
with
a
2-head
deck
where
the
recording
sound
cannot
be
monitored.
The
AUTO
BLE
on
this
unit
automatically
adjusts
bias,
level
and
equalizer
by
using
a
microprocessor
to
set
the
optimum
recording
characteristics
accordingly
for
each
tape.
SOUND EQ FUNCTION

This
function
operates
only
during
recording
(not
including
tape
copying).
It
has
no
effect
during
playback.
@
When
a
recorded
tape
is
played
back
ona
portable
headphone
stereo
or
Car
stereo,
reproduction
of
the
high
or
low
ranges
may
be
insufficient,
depending
on
the
type
of
playback
unit
used
and
the
interior
furnishings
of
your
automobile.
The
SOUND
EQ
function
is
provided
to
allow
you
to
augment
those
frequency
ranges
that
tend
to
sound
inadequate
on
port-
able
stereo
or
car
stereo
players,
thus
allowing
you
to
make
the
optimum
tapes
for
those
piayback
units.

Before
recording,
set
the
SOUND
EQ
switch
as
desired,
The
po-
sitions
allow
you
to
produce
the
optimum
effect
for
your
porta-
bie
stereo
and
car
stereo
cassette
players.
®
By
combining
this
function
with
AUTO
BLE,
the
frequency
response
of
your
tapes
is
augmented
so
as
to
produce
the
most
effective
tape
recording
without
changing
the
amount
of
fre-
quency
response
boost
for
your
own
tape's
characteristics.

If
the
SOUND
EQ
switch
is
selected
during
recording
or
when
the
unit
is
stopped,
the
display
PORTABLE
or
CAR
will
appear
in
the
counter
window
for
about
3.5
seconds.
At
the
same
time,
the
meter
section
will
display
an
image
of
the
frequency
response.
