8.1.3 Fusion process
The PTFE coating of the heating element must be protected from mechanical
damage and/or dirt.
Heating element with damaged PTFE -covering has to be replaced. Non-
observance affects the quality of the joining, see chapter 10.1, from pg. 50.
Different contact forces are required in butt fusion. The forces required
for equalization, heat soak, and fusion can be found in the respective
tables ( see chapter 9).
Equalization phase (fusion bead creation on both sides)
1. Swing heating element into position.
2. By turning the hand wheel, the parts to be joined (pipe/fitting) are moved
together and pressed against the heating element until the required fusion
force (F1 in the table) could be found on the scale.
Turn the hand wheel counter clockwise until the desired fusion force is
reached.
Lock the hand wheel with the locking screw!
