Do you have a question about the Polypipe UFH8ZMP and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Polypipe UFH8ZMP is an 8-zone RF Premium Wiring Centre designed for wireless control of underfloor heating systems. It aims to provide significant energy savings through precise temperature management in individual rooms.

Function Description

The UFH8ZMP controller manages thermostatic actuators, a pump, and an additional voltage-free contact (e.g., for a heating device). It controls up to 8 temperature sensors, each assigned to a separate heating zone. The controller determines if a zone requires heating based on the current temperature from the room sensor or regulator and the zone's individual operation algorithm. If heating is needed, it opens the valve, activates the pump, and engages the additional contact.

The device supports wireless communication with various room sensors and regulators:

  • UFHSENSEWP (room temperature sensor): Sends current zone temperature. The sensor must be registered in a given zone.
  • UFHBOOSTWP (room regulator): Sends current zone temperature and allows direct adjustment of the pre-set temperature from the zone. The regulator must be registered in the external controller.
  • UFHTFT (room regulator): Sends current zone temperature and allows adjustment of the pre-set temperature and schedule directly from the zone. The regulator must be registered in the external controller.
  • UFHTFTM (master room regulator): Sends current zone temperature and allows adjustment of the pre-set temperature and schedule directly from the zone, with the possibility of adjusting settings for other zones. The regulator must be registered in the external controller.

The controller can be connected to Internet modules (UFHINTMODP or UFHINTWIFIP) to allow users to adjust functions and view parameters remotely via the internet.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Supply: 230V 50Hz
  • Actuator Control: Thermostatic actuators 230V
  • Pump Control: 230V input
  • Fuse: WT 3.15A tube fuse-link (5x20mm)
  • Dimensions: 33.5 cm (length) x 10.6 cm (height) x 7.2 cm (depth)
  • Wireless Communication: RF (Radio Frequency)
  • Connectivity: RS cable for Internet module, USB port for software updates.

Usage Features

Installation: The controller should be installed by a qualified person. It can be installed as a free-standing device, panel-mounted on a wall using four screw holes (after removing the front cover), or on a DIN strip.

First Start-up:

  1. Connect all subordinate devices (valve actuators 1-8, Internet module via RS cable, pump, additional device). Thermostats requiring power can be wired into three provided connections, allowing up to 6 thermostats per connection or a daisy-chain formation. Up to 8 thermostats can be powered if a separate electrical circuit is used.
  2. Switch on the power supply and verify device operation.
  3. Activate the Internet module (if connected).
  4. Set current time and date.
  5. Configure temperature sensors/room regulators.

User Interface: The main screen displays:

  • Valve operation icon
  • Additional contact activation icon
  • Current time
  • Time left until manually set temperature changes
  • Current weekly schedule type
  • Pre-set temperature in a given zone
  • Sensor battery level in a given zone
  • Sensor signal strength in a given zone
  • Current temperature of the sensor in a given zone
  • Zone information (digit indicates connected sensor, flashing digit for low temperature, exclamation mark for alarm).

Navigation is done using "up," "down," "plus," "minus" buttons to view menu options and adjust values, and "MENU" to enter the controller menu/confirm settings, and "EXIT" to exit/cancel.

Controller Menu (Main Menu):

  • Manual operation: Activates pump, voltage-free contact, and valve actuators independently for testing.
  • Zones (1-8): Configures operation parameters for individual zones.
    • OFF/ON: Deactivates/activates a registered room sensor.
    • Pre-set temperature: Allows temporary override of the weekly schedule temperature. The duration can be set, or indefinitely (00:00).
    • Weekly control: Offers "Own - local schedule" (editable) and "1..5 schedules – global schedule" (universal, editable via Internet module or UFHTFTM). Users can program up to 3 time periods with specific temperatures and choose applicable days.
    • Calibration: Adjusts the displayed temperature from -10°C to +10°C in 0.1°C increments.
    • Hysteresis: Defines temperature tolerance (0-10°C in 0.1°C increments) to prevent rapid on/off cycling.
    • Registration: Registers sensors or room regulators to zones.
  • Language: Selects the display language.
  • Display contrast: Adjusts display contrast.

Fitter's Menu: Accessible by qualified personnel, this menu includes:

  • Internet module settings: DHCP, IP address, IP mask, gateway address, DNS address, module version.
  • Clock settings: Time and date.
  • Software version: Displays controller software version.

Registration of Sensors/Regulators:

  • UFHSENSEWP: Go to Zone / Registration / Sensor, select Registration, then press the communication button on the sensor.
  • UFHBOOSTWP: Go to Zone / Registration / Sensor, select Registration, then press the communication button on the regulator.
  • UFHTFT: Go to Zone / Registration / Sensor, select Registration, then activate registration in the room regulator menu. Only one sensor/regulator can be assigned per zone. Registering a new sensor to an occupied zone will unregister the previous one.

Maintenance Features

Protections and Alarm:

  • Thermal protection: Disconnects power if the controller's internal temperature exceeds a safe limit.
  • Automatic sensor control: Detects sensor damage (e.g., "Sensor damaged" message). The alarm remains active until the fault is resolved.
  • Deleting zone alarm: Select the alarmed zone, press EXIT, then choose "Reset" (controller re-attempts communication) or "Deactivate" (zone is deactivated).
  • Fuse: The controller is protected by a WT 3.15A tube fuse-link. Using a higher amperage fuse can damage the controller.

Software Update:

  • Updates should only be performed by a qualified fitter. Previous settings cannot be restored after an update.
  • To update: Unplug the controller, insert a memory stick with new software into the USB port, then connect power while holding the EXIT button until a single sound signal is heard. The controller will restart automatically after the update.
  • Warning: Do not switch off the controller during a software update.
