Sprocket
The lower sprocket, which drives the timing chain and the chain for the
oil pump, has a friction disk on the front (facing the pulley) and rear
(facing the crankshaft) for improved torque transmission.
Belt Drive
The secondary units, such as the generator, coolant pump, power-
steering pump and air conditioning compressor, are driven from the
torsional vibration balancer via a polyrib belt. A maintenance free belt
tensioner ensures the correct belt tension in all operating states.

friction disk viewed under a microscope.
