INTRODUCTION (CONTINUED):
The SHC heater by Process Technology is designed to safely heat process chemistries
through indirect contact instead of direct immersion. The wetted surfaces are constructed of
high purity PFA for non-metallic equipment requirements and the heater can be used in either
single pass or multi-pass (recirculating) flow applications.
The SHC inline heater can withstand operation at a variety of temperature and pressure
conditions. The maximum operating condition for the SHC inline heater is 80
o
C at 40 PSI.
Safe operation of this heater requires the use of
the core sensor(s) with an appropriate
thermostatically controlled device. Operating in
excess of the maximum operating temperature
(80°C) can result in conditions that can cause
harm to operators and equipment.
The Standard Process Technology SHC Series Heater consists of:
PFA fluid path
Grounded heating element (resistive style)
0.5 meters (20in) PVC covered power cable with TE connectivity/AMP plug
1.78 meters (70in) PVC covered sensor cable with DB9 plug
Heater core sensor; 2x RTD100
Thermal cut-off device (bimetallic switch), set at 90°C
6mm (1/4”) PFA SP300 Pillar inlet and outlet plumbing connections
3mm (1/8”) PFA SP300 Pillar inlet and outlet plumbing connections
The following equipment is recommended for safe operation of the SHC Inline Heater,
and must be customer-supplied.
Process temperature controller
Liquid level sensor
Proper high-voltage power fusing and electrical disconnect switch
Electrical earth leakage (ground fault) protection
Pump motor safety interlock circuit
The Process Technology SHC heater heats
process fluid to temperatures as high as 80
C.
However, the over-temperature protection circuit
will allow the heater core to reach temperatures as
high as 83
C. Consult the factory BEFORE
attempting to heat flammable or combustible
fluids.
