Check the electrical wiring of the fan or compressor, replacing the condenser or motor/compressor if needed. Ensure the heat pump has sufficient air circulation. Verify and correct the temperature setting. If a by-pass is needed, have it installed. For ice formation on the evaporator, have the automatic defrost settings checked. Finally, a refrigeration technician should check the refrigerant level.

High water temperature (above 29°C) can also increase ice formation, so try lowering the set temperature. Check the automatic defrost control settings with your installer. The 4-way valve might be faulty; check the voltage in the wiring to it and replace the coil if voltage is measured. If problems persist, have a refrigeration technician check the heat pump. Low refrigerant levels can also cause this issue; have a technician check the refrigerant.
