Overview

This document is an installation and instruction manual for Proteam Heat Pumps, specifically covering compact and split models with R410A refrigerant. It provides comprehensive information for installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Proteam Heat Pump is designed to heat or cool swimming pool water. It utilizes a heat exchanger made from PVC and titanium, which is resistant to corrosive substances like chlorinated water or brine. The unit works by transferring energy from the ambient air to the pool water (heating) or from the pool water to the ambient air (cooling). The system is designed to be easily integrated into an existing pool filter system. Water flowing out of the filter is divided, with a portion directed to the heat pump for temperature adjustment before being mixed back with the filtered water and returned to the pool. A flow switch ensures the unit operates only when there is sufficient water flow, automatically shutting off if the flow is too low or the pool pump is off. The unit also features a solid-state restart delay to protect control circuit components and prevent rapid cycling. For split units, the main unit (compressor and fan) is located outdoors, while the heat exchanger (with the display/control panel) is installed in the filter room, connected by refrigerant pipes and a control cable.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides specifications for several compact models (PP10C-410, PP15C-410, PP20C-410, PP25C-410, PP28C-410) and split models (PP10S, PP15S).

  • Refrigerant: All models use R410A refrigerant.
  • Power Supply: Most compact models are 230V/1/50Hz, with PP25C-410 and PP28C-410 also available in 400V/3/50Hz.
  • Water Connection: 50 mm (2 inches) diameter for compact models.
  • Water Pressure Drop: Less than 0.1 bar (10 kPa) at normal flow rate.
  • Operating Temperature Range: The COP graph indicates operation from approximately -8°C to 40°C outside temperature.
  • Heating Capacity (BTU/h & kW):
    • PP10C-410: 29400 BTU/h (7.1-9.6 kW)
    • PP15C-410: 44200 BTU/h (11-14.7 kW)
    • PP20C-410: 60000 BTU/h (14.1-19.1 kW)
    • PP25C-410: 71300 BTU/h (17.7-23.9 kW)
    • PP28C-410: 79000 BTU/h (19.9-26.8 kW)
  • Noise Level: Ranges from 51 dB(A) for PP10C-410 to 58 dB(A) for PP25C-410 and PP28C-410.
  • Fan Orientation: Horizontal for all compact models listed.
  • Dimensions (Compact Models - W/D/H):
    • PP10C/PP15C: 1000/420/650 mm
    • PP20C: 1110/470/850 mm
    • PP25C/PP28C: 1120/470/1260 mm
  • Dimensions (Split Models - Main Unit W/D/H):
    • PP10S: 820/320/540 mm
    • PP15S: 890/380/705 mm
  • Dimensions (Split Models - Water Unit W/D/H):
    • PP10S: 368/232/550 mm
    • PP15S: 368/232/550 mm

Usage Features:

  • LED Controller: The unit is controlled via an LED display showing two two-digit numbers: one for the operation parameter and one for its value.
  • Temperature Settings: Users can set the desired outgoing water temperature for both cooling (8-28°C, default 27°C) and heating (15-40°C, default 27°C) modes.
  • Defrost Function: The unit has adjustable defrost settings, including compressor running time after ice formation (30-90 sec, default 45 sec), temperature to start defrost (-30 to 0°C, default -6°C), temperature to stop defrost (0 to +30°C, default 13°C), and maximum defrosting time (0-15 min, default 8 min).
  • Running Modes: Selectable modes include cooling only (0), cooling & heating (1), and heating only (3). Mode switching is possible via the MODE button if parameter 8 is set to "1".
  • Pump Control: Parameter 9 allows setting the pump to always run (0) or to start 60 seconds before the compressor and stop 30 seconds after (1).
  • Auto Restart: Parameter 7 enables or disables automatic restart after a power failure (0: no restart, 1: automatic restart).
  • Timer Function: Users can set specific ON/OFF times for the unit.
  • Error Indications: The LED controller displays error codes (e.g., PP1-PP7, EE1-EE8) for various malfunctions, aiding in troubleshooting.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Checks:
    • Water Supply and Flow: Ensure adequate water flow and regularly clean the pool filter.
    • Surroundings: Keep the area around the unit dry, clean, and well-ventilated to ensure unrestricted airflow and maintain COP.
    • Evaporator Cleaning: Shut off electrical supply and clean the evaporator with warm water, avoiding high pressure to prevent damage to the collector fins. Do not open the cabinet.
  • Leakage Detection: The unit produces condense water, which is normal. To distinguish between condensation and a leak, shut off the unit while keeping the pool pump running. If water stops dripping, it's condensation. Alternatively, test the drain water for chlorine; if none is present, it's condensation.
  • Winterizing:
    • Prevent Freezing: Before winter, all water must be drained from the pump and water system to prevent freezing. This is done from the lower water connection (water inlet).
    • Restarting: Before starting the heat pump after a longer period, ensure the system is fully filled with water.
  • Professional Service: The operation pressure of the refrigerant system should only be serviced by a certified technician, preferably by a Proteam workshop.
