PXU (ProximUnify) Profile
The ProximUnify enables VLAN roaming for both data and voice clients. VLAN roaming support is required when a client
device roams between APs connected to switches with different VLANs configured.
Figure 4-52 illustrates a scenario in which VLAN roaming is used. Clients connected to AP 1, which supports VLANs A
and B, roam to AP 2, which supports VLANs X and Y. When this occurs, AP 2 communicates with the ProximUnify to
establish a data path, and then tunnels the packets to/from those clients back to AP 1.
Communication between ProximUnify Modules and registered Access Points is secured using Diffie-Hellman for
authentication and RC4 for encryption.

Wireless Domain Configuration
In order for the AP and ProximUnify to work together to support VLAN roaming, the administrator must first configure a
ProximUnify profile and enable VLAN capabilities on the AP. For more information on ProximUnify configuration and
management, refer to the ProximUnify User Guide.
A ProximUnify Module can act as a Master, a Backup-Master, or a Client. A wireless domain can support only one Master
and one Backup-Master ProximUnify Module, and up to 30 Client ProximUnify Modules. All ProximUnify Modules,
regardless of their roles, communicate with APs as outlined above. In addition, Master, Backup-Master, and Client
ProximUnify Modules have the following responsibilities in the wireless network:
Master ProximUnify:
Registers Backup-Master ProximUnify Modules
Registers Client ProximUnify Modules
Maintains relevant wireless domain information
Manages mobility information for the wireless domain
