Overview

This document is the operator's manual for the Pulsar Lawn Mower, Model #PTG1221SA2. It provides comprehensive information regarding the assembly, operation, adjustment, and maintenance of the device.

Function Description:

The Pulsar PTG1221SA2 is a gas-powered lawn mower designed for cutting lawn areas in private houses and hobby gardens. It is a single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine machine with a cutting width of 21 inches (530mm). The mower offers three primary functions: rear discharging, rear bagging, and mulching, which can be converted by changing accessory settings. It also features a side discharge option. The self-propelled system allows the lawnmower to move with the engine running when the drive lever (clutch lever) is pressed, making operation easier.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Engine Type: Single cylinder 4-stroke
  • Engine Displacement: 200cc
  • Engine Max. Power: 3.8KW / 2800 RPM
  • Engine Speed: 2800 RPM
  • Cutting Width: 21 Inches / 530mm
  • Grass Bag Capacity: 16 Gallon / 60L
  • Ignition: TCL/TORCH
  • Fuel Tank Capacity: 0.3 Gallons / 1.2L
  • Oil Tank Capacity: 0.6 Quarts / 0.6L
  • Spark Type: RJ9LMC
  • Net Weight: 79.3lbs / 36KG
  • Sound Pressure Level (LPA): 84dB(A)
  • Sound Power Level (LWA): 98dB(A)
  • Vibration Emission Value: 6.1m/s²

Usage Features:

The lawn mower is designed for ease of use and safety.

  • Handle Assembly: The handle consists of an upper and lower handle, with fixing knobs and bolts for secure attachment. It also includes a soft grip for comfortable operation and a height-adjusting handle.
  • Starting the Engine: To start a cold engine, the primer needs to be pressed 3-5 times. For a warm engine, the primer is not necessary. The engine is started by pulling the engine Start/Stop lever towards the upper handle and then giving a sharp pull on the pull start.
  • Stopping the Engine: Releasing the engine Start/Stop lever automatically switches off the engine.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The cutting height is centrally adjusted using a handle, offering 7 different positions. This adjustment should only be performed when the engine is shut off and the spark plug boot has been pulled.
  • Discharge Options: The mower supports rear discharge, rear bagging (using the grass bag), mulching (with a plastic mulching plug), and side discharge (with a side discharge chute). When using the side discharge function, the grass bag must be removed and the mulching plug installed.
  • Self-Propelled Function: The unit is equipped with a self-propelled system, activated by pressing the drive lever (clutch lever), which engages the clutch and moves the lawnmower forward. Releasing the drive lever stops the movement.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes wearing substantial footwear and long trousers, inspecting the area for objects, and never operating the equipment barefoot or in open sandals. It warns against operating in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas due to toxic exhaust gases and advises keeping hands, feet, and clothing away from moving parts. Refueling should be done outdoors with the engine stopped and cool, avoiding smoking or open flames.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the lawn mower.

  • Cleaning: The lawn mower should be thoroughly cleaned after each use, ensuring grass cuttings and debris do not dry and harden on surfaces, which could impair mowing. The grass chute and underside of the mower deck should be checked and cleared of any blockages.
  • Engine Oil: The engine is shipped without oil and fuel and must be filled with SAE30 or equivalent 4-stroke engine oil before starting. The oil level should be checked regularly using the dipstick, ensuring it is between the Min and Max marks. The oil should be changed after the first 8 hours of use and then according to the maintenance schedule.
  • Fuel: Only clean, fresh unleaded fuel should be used, purchased in quantities that can be consumed within 30 days. Oil should never be mixed with gasoline. The fuel tank should not be overfilled, allowing for expansion.
  • Spark Plug: The spark plug should be cleaned with a wire brush and the gap set to 0.75mm. It should be removed and reinstalled carefully to avoid cross-threading. Regular checks and replacement are part of the maintenance schedule.
  • Air Filter: The air filter should be inspected frequently, especially in dusty conditions. It can be cleaned with warm water and mild soap and allowed to dry thoroughly before re-installation. Pressurized air or solvents should not be used as they can damage or dissolve the filter.
  • Blade Maintenance: The blade should be sharpened, balanced, and mounted by an authorized service workshop annually. It is crucial to stop the engine and wait for the blade to stop completely before any blade maintenance. Garden gloves are required when handling the sharp blade. The blade should be replaced if cracked, damaged, or excessively worn/blunt.
  • Storage: For short periods (less than 15 days), the mower should be cooled, the grass bag emptied, debris cleaned, and stored upright on a flat, level surface in a safe place. For extended periods (more than 15 days), the fuel tank should be emptied, the engine run until all fuel is used, engine oil changed, cooling fins and housing cleaned, and the machine stored in a well-ventilated place.
  • Maintenance Schedule: A detailed schedule is provided for routine maintenance, including cleaning the air filter, checking/cleaning/replacing the spark plug, and checking/replacing engine oil at 12, 24, and 36 hours of use intervals.
  • Transport: Before transport, the gas tank and engine oil should be emptied, the spark plug boot removed, and cooling fins cleaned. Using the original packaging is recommended for shipping.
