 c)Wearcompleteeyeprotectionandclothingprotection.Avoidtouchingeyeswhileworkingnearbat-
tery.
 d)Ifbatteryacidcontactsskinorclothing,washimmediatelywithsoapandwater.Ifacidenterstheeye,
immediatelyfloodtheeyewithrunningcoldwaterforatleast10minutesandgetmedicalattentionimme-
diately.
 e)NEVERsmokeorallowasparkorflameinvicinityofbatteryorengine.
 f)Beextracautioustoreducetheriskofdroppingmetaltoolsontobattery.Itmightsparkorshort-cir-
cuitbatteryorotherelectricalpartthatmaycauseexplosion.
 g)Removepersonalmetalitemssuchasrings,bracelets,necklaces,andwatcheswhenworkingwith
abattery.Abatterycanproduceashort-circuitcurrenthighenoughtoweldaringortheliketometal,
causingasevereburn.
 h)Usechargerforchargingabatteryonly.Itisnotintendedtosupplypowertoalowvoltageelectri-
calsystemotherthaninastarting,lightingandignitionapplication.Donotusethebatterychargerfor
chargingdry-cellbatteriesthatarecommonlyusedwithhomeappliances.Thesebatteriesmayburst
andcauseinjurytopersonsanddamagetoproperty.

11.PREPARINGTOCHARGE
 a)Ifnecessarytoremovebatteryfromvehicletocharge,alwaysremovegroundedterminalfrombat-
teryfirst.Makesureallaccessoriesinthevehicleareoff,soasnottocauseanarc.
 b)Besuretheareaaroundbatteryiswellventilatedwhilebatteryisbeingcharged.Gascanbeforceful-
lyblownawaybyusingapieceofcardboardorothernonmetallicmaterialasafan.
 c)Cleanbatteryterminals.Becarefultokeepcorrosionfromcomingincontactwiththeeyes.
 d)Adddistilledwatertoeachcelluntilbatteryacidreachesthelevelspecifiedbybatterymanufacturer.
Thishelpspurgeexcessivegasfromcells.Donotoverfill.Forabatterywithoutcellcaps,carefullyfollow
manufacturer’srecharginginstructions.
 e)Studyallbatterymanufacturer’sspecificprecautionssuchasremovingornotremovingcellcaps
whilechargingandrecommendedratesofcharge.
 f)Determinevoltageofbatterybyreferringtovehicleoperator’smanualandmakesureitmatchesthe
outputratingofthebatterycharger.
