Quicksilver 675PH — System & Component Overview and Operaon
32
14. SmartCra
TM
System Gauges
The instrument package on your boat includes a SmartCra
TM
tachometer and speedometer mul-
gauge system. By pressing the “mode” buon on the gauge, specic informaon vital to the safe
operaon of the vessel can be displayed. Refer to your SmartCra
TM
gauge owner’s manual for
specic informaon on how to get the most out of the mul-gauge display.
15. Exterior Helm (oponal)
An oponal exterior helm is available which allows for low speed operaon of your boat while in the
cockpit. The exterior helm, located on the forward starboard side of the cockpit consists of a steering
wheel, a hydraulic helm pump, and a remote control. Depending on the engine installed on your boat,
you will either have a mechanical gear shi/throle control unit or a “drive by wire” Digital Throle
and Shi (DTS®) control unit. The control unit, located to the starboard side of the steering wheel,
acvates both the shiing and throle for the engine.
Mechanical Operaon
At the main helm (located inside the cabin) there is a helm selector switch located on the starboard
side, under the control unit. The helm selector switch mechanically “locks out” the control
unit to make sure that you can only control the engine from one helm. The gear & throle
mechanisms are located in the cockpit bilge.
Helm Control Transfer
To switch control from the main helm to the exterior helm, pull out and rotate the handle clockwise
90 degrees unl it locks into posion. You will now have control of the engine at the exterior helm. To
return control back to the main helm, pull out and rotate the handle counter-clockwise 90 degrees
unl it locks into posion.
The steering system is independent of the helm selector switch and will operate at all mes. DO NOT
TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT THE HELM THAT DOES NOT HAVE FULL CONTROL OF THE BOAT!
DTS Operaon
At the main helm (located inside the cabin) and the exterior helm there is an “Acve Helm” indicator
panel. The light on this panel will illuminate when electronic control of the helm is available.
The engine can only be inially started from the main helm with the control in the neutral posion.
Once the engine is running, the “Acve Helm” indicator with be on for the main helm. Engine control
can then be transferred to the exterior helm staon.
NOTE: The DTS control unit must be in the neutral posion (engine running, propeller not spinning) at
both helms before transferring control.
Helm Control Transfer
To switch control from the main helm to the exterior helm, start at the exterior helm with the control
in the neutral posion, press and release the “Throle Only” buon on the control handle twice.
Wear the lanyard at all mes when operang the boat. Use
it to stop the engine only in an emergency. DO NOT use it to
shut o the engine during normal operaon
