frequency of use, the suspension fork requires a basic service and an oil replacement every 40-
60 riding hours.
3. Drive Belt Tension
Unlike a traditional chain, drive belts do not stretch and consequently, there is no reduction in
pedaling performance. However, sometimes it is necessary to re-tension the belt, e.g. when
replacing the inner tube in case of a puncture. The belt tension can be easily adjusted using the
tensioning bolts at the end of the rear dropouts.
To increase the belt tension, turn the tensioning bolts clockwise. To reduce the tension, turn the
tensioning bolts anticlockwise. Adjust the left and right tensioning bolts so that the rear wheel is
seated exactly in the centre of the frame. To check the correct tension of the belt, you should be
able to press it down about 20mm halfway between the cranks and the belt sprocket. Do not
overtight the belt as this will affect the handling of the bicycle.
4. Shifting Gear
a. Internal Gear Hub
Change gears by turning the grip shift on the handlebars. You can change gears when you are
stationary or riding. However, do not shift when pedaling hard. Shift to a lower gear as you
approach a climb.
If you detect any problems with the grip shift or internal gear hub, contact the RASCAL Bikes
service centre. Any damage to the internal gear hub as a result of improper servicing or misuse,
may result in a loss of your warranty rights.
b. Rear Derailleur
Change gears using the levers located on the right side of the handlebars. The gears will shift
only while pedaling. However, do not shift when pedaling hard. Shift to a lower gear as you
approach a climb to avoid overloading the derailleur. Avoid placing the bicycle down on its right
side as it can result in damage to the derailleur and its mount.
If you detect any problems with the derailleur or shifters, contact a RASCAL Bikes service
centre. Any damage to the derailleur or shifters as a result of improper servicing or misuse, may
result in a loss of warranty rights.
5. Headset and Stem
Although headset bearings do not rotate as much as other bearings on the bike, they indicate
precise steering and safe riding. A loose headset can result in further damage to other
components, as well as serious injury. Check the headset before every ride by pulling the front
brake lever and rocking the handlebars back and forth. If the headset moves, tighten it or visit
the nearest bike service.
CAUTION: A loose headset can cause serious injury. If you are in any doubt, contact your
RASCAL dealer or RASCAL Bikes service centre.
