16.1Radaroverview
Radarisusedtoprovideinformationthatcanhelpyoutotrack
targetsandmeasuredistancesandbearings.
RadioDetectionAndRanging(RADAR)isusedatseatodetect
thepresenceofobjects(knownas‘targets’)atadistance,andif
theyaremoving,detecttheirspeed.
Radarworksbytransmittingradiopulses,thendetecting
reectionsofthesepulses(echoes)fromobjectsintheareaand
displayingthereectionsastargetsonyourdisplay.
Untilyouarefamiliarwithinterpretingtheradardisplay,every
opportunityshouldbetakentocomparetheradarscreen
patternswithvisualtargets,suchasotherboats,buoysand
coastalstructures.Youshouldpractiseharborandcoastal
navigationduringdaylighthoursandinclearweatherconditions.
HDandSuperHDradar
Yourmultifunctiondisplaycanbeusedwithradarscanners.
HDandSuperHDradarscannersprovidearangeofadvantages,
makingiteasiertodiscernobjectsaroundyourvessel.
HDandSuperHDradarscannersprovide:
•Improvedtargetdetection.
•Full-colorimage.
•DualRangeoperation.
•SuperHDoption.Thiseffectivelyincreasesthetransmitter
powerbyafactorofatleast2,andreducesthebeamwidthby
asimilaramount.
Note:YoumustconnectaSuperHDradarscannerinorder
tousetheSuperHDoption.
Multipleradarscanners
Themultifunctiondisplayonlysupportstheuseof1radaron
thenetwork.
Whentheradarapplicationisopened,ifmultipleradarscanners
aredetectedthenawarningmessageshallbedisplayed.
Additionalscannerswillneedtoberemovedfromthenetwork
beforetheradarapplicationwillfunction.
