Why does my Raypak 268 keep turning on and off?
    • K
      kkiddAug 15, 2025
If your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater is going on and off continuously, it could be due to a dirty filter, so you should clean or replace it. It may also be caused by a low water level in the pool, so raise the water level. An external bypass setting that is out of adjustment can also cause this issue, so try adjusting the bypass. Lastly, marginal flow can be the culprit, so check the pump and flow switch.

How to fix sooting in Raypak 268?
    • J
      James BoltonAug 18, 2025
Sooting in your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater can be caused by several factors. High flow rates can be a cause; reduce them by adding a manual bypass valve and adjust it until the heater outlet water temperature is between 105°F and 110°F. An inoperative U.G. can also cause sooting; check its movement in hot water (110°F or higher) and replace it if there is no movement. Air starvation and improper venting can also lead to sooting; refer to the installation instructions for guidance. Finally, insects or debris clogging the burner intake ports can cause sooting; clean the burners to resolve this.

What causes pilot outage in Raypak Swimming Pool Heater?
    • S
      smonroeAug 21, 2025
A pilot outage or weak flame signal in your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater can stem from low gas pressure, so adjust the gas pressure. It may also be due to a restricted or dirty pilot, in which case you should clean the pilot and/or electrode. Another possible cause is a weak pilot generator, so replace the pilot if necessary.

Why does my Raypak 268 take so long to heat the pool?
    • J
      Joshua DelgadoAug 26, 2025
If your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater is taking too long to heat your pool or spa, it could be due to several reasons. The heater might be undersized; calculate its heating capacity or refer to the heater sizing chart. The filter may not be running long enough, so reset the time clock. A dirty filter can also cause this, so clean it. Finally, the gas line or meter might be undersized, so refer to the installation instructions.

What to do if Raypak Swimming Pool Heater makes a whining noise?
    • L
      Luis HillAug 28, 2025
A harmonics or whining noise in your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater can be caused by several issues. If the U.G. is inoperative, check its movement by putting it in hot water (110°F or higher), and replace it if there's no movement. Debris or a restriction in the system can also cause this noise; locate and remove the restriction, then flush and clean the system. Debris in the gas line can also be the problem; remove the debris or blow out the gas line. Low flow can also lead to this issue; scale forming in the heat exchanger may be the cause, so clean the heat exchanger and check the pool's pH and total alkalinity.

Why is the flame yellow on my Raypak 268?
    • N
      Nancy BaileyAug 31, 2025
A yellow, lazy flame in your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater can be due to low gas pressure, so adjust the gas pressure. It can also be caused by insects or debris clogging the burner intake ports, so clean the burners.

What causes scaling in my Raypak 268?
    • B
      Brenda LewisSep 4, 2025
Liming or scale forming in the exchanger of your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater can be caused by pool water issues; refer to Water Chemistry on page 2. It can also occur if too much water is bypassing; inspect the bypass for movement, and replace it if there is no movement. Additionally, a non-functioning U.G. can contribute to this problem; replace it if it shows no movement when heated.

Why is the outer jacket of my Raypak Swimming Pool Heater very hot?
    • W
      williamsalanSep 7, 2025
If the outer jacket of your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater is very hot and the paint is blistered, it could be due to broken refractory caused by shipping damage or improper combustion, in which case you should replace the refractory panels. It could also be caused by excessive sooting of the heat exchanger, so determine the cause of the sooting and correct it.

What causes gasket to leak on Raypak 268?
    • C
      Chelsea EstradaSep 12, 2025
If the gasket in your Raypak Swimming Pool Heater is brittle and leaking, indicating it's overheated, it could be due to refractory damage, so replace the refractory. Alternatively, it could be caused by a sooted heater, so determine the cause of the sooting and correct it.
