3. Watch the steering control linkages and
engage
parking brake.
•
If one or both steering control linkages
move from the neutral position, set
parking brake neutral. See Set Parking
Brake Neutral on page 25.
•
If there is little to no steering linkage
movement, advance to step 4.
4. Start the engine and move the throttle
lever
to fast position.
•
If the unit creeps or the transaxles make
a whining sound, set parking brake
neutral. See Set Parking Brake Neutral
on page 25.
•
If the unit doesn’t move and the
transaxles are quiet, no adjustment is
needed.
5. Stop engine and return unit to operating
position.
Set Parking Brake Neutral
1. Adjust transaxles. See Adjust Transaxles on
page 23.
2. Stop engine, remove key, and wait for
moving parts to stop and for hot parts to
cool.
3. Release parking brake.
4. Loosen hardware retaining eccentric spacer
on the affected side(s).
5. Engage parking brake and rotate
eccentric
spacer so it aligns in brake interlock. (See
Figure 27.
)

6. Tighten eccentric spacer hardware.
7. Stop engine, return unit to operating
position
and adjust steering controls.
ADJUST PARKING BRAKE
See Figure 28.
IMPORTANT: Adjust both sides of parking
brake
equally.
1. Check parking brake. See Check Parking
Brake on page 21.
2. Engage parking brake.
3. Loosen nuts behind compression spring until
tension is removed from spring. Then tighten
stop nut against washer until
spring
measures 3.8 cm (1 1/2") long.
4. Tighten jam nut against stop nut.
5. Loosen nuts ahead of trunnion until there
is
a 3.2 mm – 6.4 mm (1/8" – 1/4") gap
between the stop nut and trunnion.
6. Tighten jam nut against the stop nut.
7. Check brake function.

REPLACE MOWER BELTS
CAUTION: Damaged or worn belts may
result in injury and / or damage to the
unit. Check belts often for excessive
wear or cracks.
Remove PTO Belt
See Figure 29.
1. Engage parking brake.
2. Stop engine, remove key and wait for
moving parts to stop and for hot parts to
cool.
3. Position mower deck at lowest cutting
height.
